Work at home opportunities

I am trying to find a work from home job. My husband is a computer programmer so we are making it on his income but I still would like to contribute. I also don't have any clerical experience. Does anyone know of any good websites that I would be able to find a entry level job. I am also thinking of trying to get into a medical transcription course. If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

  • Why don't you just get a regular job?

  • You go to the TeleTech Inc website. Look at see if there are at home opportunities in your area. It would be answering inbound calls at your home.
  • Is there a specific reason why you need a work-at-home job? These opportunities are VERY difficult to come by, unless you 1. are willing to do telemarketing which, speaking from experience, can be an excruciating experience that often only pays if you manage to make some sales, or 2. have a specific, in-demand skill that is so attractive to businesses that they will hire you as a work-from-home consultant or allow you to telecommute (graphic design and web design comes to mind).

I did read a legitimate article recently about how U-Haul is doing a lot of hiring, and how many of the positions they are looking to fill are work-from-home positions that require answering calls from customers. You might want to look into that. My husband works at night, and applied to do this during the day to make some extra money. They do want to know what kind of skills you have though, and those skills include typing and using computer programs. Also, while there is a base hourly rate, making extra money requires you to convince people to upgrade to a larger van, purchase blankets to wrap their furniture in, etc.

You might find this About.com article helpful. It gives you access to some work-from-home positions. Personally though, I wouldn't take any of these jobs unless I had no other choice. There's no opportunity for growth, the money isn't great and often isn't a sure thing, and many of them require you to have very specific skills. Be careful not to fall for work-from-home scams! There are so many out there.

  • There are sites like Referdia- signing up businesses for a Groupon-like service for free where you make % of what they sell. I have friends making $2k a month with it, I just started and don't have much experience yet other than the company is growing and doing well. here's a link to check it out, ping me back if you want to sign up. Network marketing is getting bigger, and this is one of the leaders. http://bit.ly/wqz6hB
  • Well is there anything you really love doing or are really good at? That might be a good place to start...there are lots of jobs you could do to help contribute to your family, especially if your family is not desperate for the money at this point. Do you like to paint, make things, write?

  • I'm also interested in finding a work at home job (or something where I can do some of it from home and some of it out of the home it: mary kay, scentsy, etc). My reasoning is that my husband has a day job and we are just starting our efforts to have a family. I do have a disorder which will make pregnancy harder for me so I would like something where I can do work when I am feeling up to it and cut back when I just can't handle it. A regular job with set hours won't accomodate this, In addition I do want to be a SAHM for the most part and would like something I can work on while our kids are napping or otherwise entertained. I would be willing to do something like I already mentioned which would require some time away from the home. We have a great support network of people who would be willing to babysit where needed if neither of us can be home but I don't want to rely on that daily like my husbands brother and SIL do. I want to be around to raise my children.
  • Ahhhhh! the old work at home gig, every moms dream, sure wish i could!!

Ive looked and looked and looked, but they all seem to be scams or really badly payed. You could always try 5er gigs if you have a talent

sadly its the grind for me

  • There are a lot of websites that offer virtual assistant jobs through legitimate means; I've heard of quite a few names that get thrown around on The Nest. They usually require you to consider the position a self-made one, so that means you absorb initial costs, but if you have things like a PC and landline already set up, a lot of it should be taken care of between those two. Becoming an MT will require training. There's CareerStep's online medical transcription training program that can help you if you're so inclined.
