Niagara Falls -October

My dh & I are flying to Buffalo this month and going to visit the falls.  We thought about going to see a Buffalo Bills game one day as well.  Anybody ever been there or live around there and have any ideas on what to do.  We are thinking to go over to Canada one of the days and then Niagara Falls, NY the other days.  We'll be there 4 nights.  Any advice is appreciated on what to do while we are there.  We will have a rental car.  Thanks!

Re: Niagara Falls -October

  • My advice is if you're going to Canada, then view the Falls from that side.  We went to the NY side a few years ago and it's just run down.
  • skip the NY side-just  hit the canadian. toronto is only an hour away as well :)
Friday, December 28 2012. The day I had emergency appendix surgery in Mexico and quit smoking. Proof that everything has a good side!! DH and I are happily child-free!! No due date or toddler tickers here!! my read shelf:

  • I wouldn't skip the American side entirely.  We stayed on the Canadian side and definitely spent the majority of our time over there.  However, we did walk to the American side for an afternoon and explore the falls/park area over there.  It is quite impressive to stand right next to the American Falls and look straight down.

4 days is kind of a lot in Niagara Falls IMO.  There just isn't THAT much to do there.  Last October, DH and I spent 2 days in Niagara Falls and 1 day at Niagara on the Lake.  I think 2 days was perfect- we weren't bored, but we felt like we did everything that we wanted to do.

  • The Canadian side is much better, even on the night life scene. We found the US side rather boring other than maybe an afternoon worth of walking around.. Canadian side has much more to offer..

  • We stayed on the Canadian side in a lovely B&B.  We did all the touristy falls stuff -- Maid of the Mist and the Journey Behind the Falls and all that.  I thought it was kitschy and fun.  But we were surprised how much we enjoyed Niagara-on-the-Lake.  Charming little town, surrounded by wineries.  We got bikes and rode to a couple of wineries, bought wine and snacks and then picnicked by the river.  We only drove to the NY side to go to Schimschack's -- the restaurant where Marilyn Monroe dined with Jo DiMaggio while she was filming the movie Niagara. It wasn't too remarkable, but fun to say we did it.
