Baby's 1st haircut

When (how old)?

Who? (you?)

If you don't do it, did you go somewhere?

Note here someone in the family said it was "bad luck" to cut his hair before his 2nd birthday but it's getting a little out of control and in his eyes.

Re: Baby's 1st haircut

  • 14 mo

    not me

a place called kidz kutz, where he sat in a car and received a certificate with a lock of hair (which sits in a drawer with no intention of framing or memory booking.  bad mommy)

if i waited until ds1 was 2 he would have looked homeless.  and thus far his luck seems ok.
  • 15ish months? My hairdresser did it. And he needs another soon.
  • Ok thanks. We're approaching 11 months, though his bangs are approaching insanity.

  • I was wondering the same thing.  J's hair is over his ears but I'd be worried about him not sitting still in my lap.

  • Around 13 mo by dh hairdresser.  Her bangs were all stringy and needed to be trimmed.  She did really good and sat still.

  • my MIL says that if you cut it before 1 year it is bad luck... if he needs it cut before then I am not letting him look crazy for no reason. My nephew looked insane by his first birthday and adorable after he got a hair cut... this is one superstition I don't think I'll follow.

Did I miss something?  Do you have more than 1 now?

  • 9 or 10 months- he looked ratty.

My hair lady cuts DS too.  She has a daughter that is about 6 months older and said she was comfortable with it so there you go.

He has had 3 cuts and is 17 months old.  We wait a few months (about 3) between cuts but the kid gets a mean mullet and bieber bangs if we wait too long.

  • We just took Aisling two weeks ago- she was just over 25 months at the time.  We went to Wiggle Worms on Byberry Rd. right off of Philmont Ave. and they let her sit on a horse and then gave her a lollipop and a certificate with a lock of hair at the end- she also got to watch Mickey Mouse while getting her hair cut so she loved it.  She also got a feather put into her hair which was beyond thrilling to her...and all that for $11.  Fantastic.

  • I started trimming Oliver's hair when he was about a year old...I've never taken him anywhere to get it done. I just got hair scissors and do it myself. I think he looks cute with longish hair (see siggy), so it's easy for me to do myself.

  • I was going to let Brooks' hair just go, but he developed a baby mullet, so I get it cut. The barbershop down the street charges $10, worth the money IMO since last time I tried it it was awful. I can do basic trimming, but I learned my limitations.

  • We took JD around 15 months once the mullet started to form, took him to Kids Kutz, did the whole cutesy thing with the locket of hair and certificate, but he screamed regardless and I have no idea where that locket of hair is now, probably stuffed in a drawer somewhere. Anna will need her top trimmed soon, it is out of control, I will probably just have my friend trim it or take her to hair cuttery where I get the boy's monthly haircuts.

And my family is all about the no haircut until one thing too. If they need it, they need it, I am sure the boy will be fine ;)
