PA Voter ID ruling is out
Re: PA Voter ID ruling is out
I wasn't really paying attention because I just always hand over my license and registration card when I go to vote. But now that you say it was the republicans pushing for it I have to laugh because I know for a fact the republicans in Crawford county have been mailing out absentee ballots for everyone who didn't want to deal with they new voter I'd laws.

Absentee ballots they hadn't requested. Just automatically received because they are or were at some point registered republicans!
Ditto! I'd also be curious to know how much it has cost trying to solve a problem that hasn't been proven to exist. And if it were a problem, requiring ID would not be the solution (absentee ballots). Such a waste of taxpayer money.
Eh, I can think of more wasteful spedning then proving who you are in an election. And honestly, I think everyone should have photo ID these days. But that's another can of worms.
I know my Mom went to vote at the primaries and was told, when she arrived, that she had already voted. Whether it was a mistake of the poll worker in marking her off, or someone was being fraudulent, I don't know. (And she was allowed to vote "again".) But, still, in today's day and age of technology (which I know is not 100% fool-proof), I'm not sure why the system is still antiquated.
My three sons!
I think the move to the computer based voting equipment and all the drama around that is a good example of why the system is still so antiquated. Change is hard for everyone. And like you said, technology isn't foolproof. And it comes with inherent risks. I personally was surprised I didn't have to have my ID the first time I voted. Or any following time. I don't think the idea behind proving you are who you are is bad. i am just suspect about how they went about doing it.
I don't necessarily disagree with requiring an ID, but this whole approach is completely suspect. Of course there's lots of wasteful spending out there, but I personally can't think of anything worse than pushing for a "solution" that would disenfranchise thousands of voters...but again, another can of worms!
I had to have id to vote the first time when my polling location changed.
I also thought it was funny that the Republicans sent applications for absentee ballots. I forwarded the application on to my daughter at college. She is not Republican but wants to vote in this election. Since she can't get home on election day, she now has her chance!
