Moves & Tattoos!

I can't remember if I've told y'all about this yet, but DH and I have made a *HUGE* decision! We have packed up and moved from my hometown of Charleston, SC to his hometown of Creswell, NC. Never heard of it? Don't worry, neither had I. It is about 45 mins from Nag's Head in the Outer Banks. Pretty much the middle of nowhere. Anyway, it was a really difficult decision for us to make. In fact, when he first broached the subject, I refused to even discuss it. I would sob for, like, an hour at just the thought of leaving my hometown, family, and friends. You see, I've lived in Charleston my whole life. My best friends live there, and I've always had some of them by my side since elementary school! Plus, my whole family either lives there or just 2 short hours away. I did not want to move at all! But, then I realized (I was being a complete selfish brat) what moving would mean for us. Not only would my hubs be closer to his family and friends, but we would also have the opportunity to work for ourselves. Like be our own bosses...for good and possibly gain financial freedom. Plus, it would give me more time to dedicate to my blog so I can help it reach its full potential. So, after many shed tears, we have made the move! We are going to be taking a fast-paced real estate course this month and getting settled into his parent's house. Oh, yeah...we moved in with his parents!!!! Sheesh...tons of life changes happening at once. I would greatly appreciate any prayers and well wishes you can send our way!

Also, I got a new tattoo!!!  I've been wanting it for a few years now, and I finally found the time to make it happen and it also just so happened to be one day before our 11 month wedding anniversary. Some of you might remember that DH and I are huge Harry Potter fans, so I got a tattoo that represents our love for the books as well as our marriage. Growing up and before I met my hubs, I was a bit mischievous and a bit of a rebel. Not too much so, but definitely enough for it to count. Anyway, DH has helped reign that in...like a lot...and when we got married I feel that my "mischief" was finally "managed" for good! I can not figure out how to post pics in here (WTF?!?), so if you want to see it you can check it out on my blog. The link is in my signature.

Do any of y'all have tattoos or anything else that you've done to represent your marriage?

Re: Moves & Tattoos!

  • Sounds like you have a lot of fun things happening in your life! I know what it's like to move, DH and I move a lot with our jobs don't worry you'll find new friends and it will be nice to be close to his family. Good luck getting settled and learning all the fun new things in the area!

I'm actually thinking about doing a tattoo in memory of all the weddings in our family, it will be a snowflake since we had some unexpected snow on our wedding day. Also I want to incorporate a necklace that my grandpa got my grandma on their wedding day and maybe some other things to represent other family weddings like rings etc. I've got a really rough idea but just need to figure out what exactly and where I'll end up getting it.

  • OMG! That's crazy that you said that! I'm going to be getting another tattoo next week and it is going to have a snowflake incorporated in it too!
  • Nice tattoo!  Mine unfortunately mean nothing because I was young and just going for designs (both are just tribal designs).  A few years ago, I really wanted to get a tattoo of two dimes.  After my grandparents passed away, I would always find two dimes together everywhere I went. A tattoo artist told me that I would need to get them larger than I really wanted them in order for them to be legible... so I dropped the idea awhile ago.  Maybe I will reconsider...

ETA:  I did think about getting something small like our anniversary date... but I almost put that in the same boat as putting someone's name on my body which I swore I'd never do!

And can I say that I really, really, really need to pin that Apple Sangria recipe so I can have it next fall?  That looked amazing!!!

  • What post is your tattoo under? I didn't see it.

I have 3 tattoos, only 1 of which I still love. It's the Tibetan symbol meaning "evil will depart" drawn vertically down my foot. Then I have a sun and a lame design that I drew many many years ago. I am dreaming of a new tat. A very sizable one. I'm done with babies so once I'm at my goal weight I'm going to get a side piece that can be expanded on up to my shoulder maybe. It will be loosely based on a short story written by my favorite musician (see 23 hours post).  When my son is old enough to draw legibly I might have him make something for me to add on. I don't think I would get something to represent the wedding, but definitely something symbolic of our relationship.

I think it's great you realized its kind of selfish to want to stay near friends and family forever when your H would like a chance to be near his. I know from experience that it sucks sometimes, but it will be exciting too. It does get difficult when you have little ones though. It's hard on me knowing how much my mom wants to see the kiddo and they are so far away.  We would move closer to them but there's no comparable job for me there.

  • Congrats and good luck on your move! sounds very exciting.

I wanted to get a tat to commemorate our marriage - I already have two others that mean a lot to me and wanted another for this. I know it is risky, but I also figured this was symbolic to how committed I am to him and our marriage. We went on a honeymoon to NZ and I thought I would probably be able to find something there that I would like. I settled on a koru, a Maori symbol for fern that means new life and new beginnings. I love it :)

     btw, love your blog!

  • Congrats on the move - sometimes change is good. I didn't want to move out-of-state when I went to grad school, but it ended up being the best experience for me. I have moved back now, but knowing what other places are like is a good growth experience.

I'm not into tattoos myself, but they can look nice on other people :) I can't look at your site here at work, but it sounds cool.
