I just wanted to share that I have been using the new Peapod pickup service for two weeks now and it has signifcantly cut down on the amount of $ i spend and time I spend on groceries.
If anyone lives near the Lincoln Mall S+T I HIGHLY suggest it (they will be opening more locations soon). The first time is free and after that it's a $2 charge but they give you $5 off coupons for trips 2 and 3 anyway. You order all your groceries online (note: the day before you need them!) Then on pickup day you go into the"pickup" lane and you get all your groceries. They are already bagged etc. The produce they picked out was good which I was happy/worried about before picking up the groceries.
You don't even step out of your car. I ordered my groceries on lunch at work- it took me 20 minutes, and then picked them up. It saved a ton of time. I know this is key for my coworker so she doesn't have to take her 7 yr old and 1 yr old with her to do the shopping, so she's been finding it really helpful.
anyway i just wanted to share beacuse they said i am their first repeat customer and that its been doing well, but not as well as they anticipated for the first weeks so I wanted to spread the word so that the program doesn't go away!
Oh and it saved me $ because you can easily search sales online, add in coupons when you pick them up...and you aren't tempted to impulse buy
Re: Peapod pickup!
I would totally do this if they bring it to our Stop & Shop! Do you pay online, too? I use a lot of coupons and wouldn't want to miss out on them. I've gotten pretty good at doubling coupons on top of sales. It is getting really hard to take DS with me, though - now he realizes that there are cheerios in that yellow box and he throws a fit if I won't let him eat them!
I also hesitate to do the peapod delivery because I don't like using plastic bags. We always bring our reusable ones to the store and have for 6 years now! But they just stopped the discount for bringing them, so that incentive is slightly gone. Do you happen to know if they give you the option of paper or plastic?
i wish they would bring this perk out our way (western Massachusetts). I would be concerned about the reusable bags as well.

I'd actually check the stores in your area (MA) because apparently the program started there. You can bring the coupons, but it does charge you full price at first. tHen you hand over your coupons and they deduct the amount saved in coupons-- basically a "credit".
I found that i wasn't able to use a ton of coupons because the generic s+s brands on sale were still less expensive and I'm totally fine with using that.
They did use plastic bags (and a lot of them. like one baguette in a bad--seriously?) which I wasn't happy about. But there is a column for special requests, so I think you can opt to ask for paper- which i am inclined to do next time. Its a bummer because i tend to use the reusable bags too when i shop. that's def. the downfall.
But it's a real time saver, and even if its a "fill in" shopping for your regular stuff I think it was worth it to save me the time. Food shopping is my most dreaded chore. I seem to always be stuck in the store for over an hour, sometimes two!
That coupon scheme is fine by me! I don't mind if it comes out of this week's bill or next
If you do try out the request for paper bags, let us know how it goes! I totally agree that it would be a huge timesaver. I can't seem to get in and out in less than an hour and a half anymore!
Looks like you get to pick a 1 hour window that works best for you:

Yup exactly! You just pick the time frame. I thinkt here are times that give you a discount- ie if you can be there in the middle of the day rather than their busier times after work.
The first time is free. After that you gets coupons for $5 off the next two orders. So its worth the try if you wanted to see how it works out!
