4 Year Anni - So Cal travels

Hello! My boyfriend and I are coming up on our 4 year anniversary in mid November :) We haven't had a getaway in quite some time. Usually, the man might plan something like this but I WANT TO this time! Not looking to spend a huge amount of money but I'm hoping with online deals I can make it happen. We live in the Orange County/LA area. San Diego or Las Vegas for the weekend are options.

Anyone have any other good ideas that you've travelled to? All advice is appreciated! :) Thanks all!

Re: 4 Year Anni - So Cal travels

  • Try to find some local getaway deals at groupon or living social. AAA also has some good last minute getaways.
  • We just got back from a week in Vegas/so Cal.  We were in the Newport Beach area and it was unbelievable.  Seriously.  Most beautiful place I've been to in a LONG time with tons and tons to do.  It also helps that my dad lives on Balboa Island! :)
  • I love playing tourist at home. It may be called a "stay-cation", but it doesn't mean you stay and go to the same place you're used to. Find a hotel in Santa Monica (for example), and explore the places you always drive by but never really see (or that you haven't been to in years).

The Santa Monica aquarium is $5 pp. You can walk along the pier -- or the beach -- for free.

California Heritage Museum is $8 pp. If you go on a Tuesday, you'll be there for food truck night. https://www.facebook.com/smfoodtrucklot (to see who'll be there). The Victorian is a special event venue on the same property where you can buy drinks (they have great happy hour specials), and listen to live music either on the main level, or in their Basement venue.

Drive up the road to Malibu to the Getty Villa -- free (parking is $15 though) Or, you could head towards Westwood for the Getty Museum or the Skirball Museum (free parking, $10 pp admission).

Worth the splurge- www.starlinetours.com (I've done the tour of stars homes and also the TMZ tour and both were really great!!)

    HTH...happy anniversary planning!!

  • There's always a good Vegas deal and being that you're soooo close, you can definitely go there on the cheap and have a fab time!  If you go this route, I highly highly rec staying at the Cosmopolitan or Palazzo, two of my fave hotels there, love them both!! You can go out for a romantic meal, see a Cirque show, drive out to the Red Rocks for a bike ride or hike... just some ideas.

Another option would be Napa/Sonoma if you're wine drinkers.  My H and I had a really awesome time touring the wineries and riding bikes in the country...lots of great restaurants too.

Also, anytime I'm going on a trip somewhere, I sign up for Groupon, LivingSocial, etc. for that area.  You can get great deals on restaurants, activities & hotels.
