cotton twill vs. cotton sailcloth? what is the difference?
I'm ordering curtains for DD's big girl room from pottery barn kids. I liked the cotton twill curtains in the store but needed to order the color I wanted online. They are backordered for longer then I would like to wait.
Online they also have cotton sailcloth curtains ready to ship in the right color and on sale for cheaper then the twil. Both have the blackout panel that I was looking for.
Does anyone know the difference between cotton twill and cotton sailcloth? I googled but just found a bunch of things for sale made with those fabrics.
Thanks for any insight!
Re: cotton twill vs. cotton sailcloth? what is the difference?
I'm in the same boat! Did you ever figure out the difference between the two?
Thanks!
Both are tightly woven. Twill has a slightly diagonal weave that isn't really noticeable except up close. Sailcloth is a flatweave, and I think it's usually a little coarser than twill. Twill is very slightly more satiny, and might drape a little more nicely than sailcloth.
But I could be wrong!
Is the fabric weight given? For example, "6-ounce cotton sailcloth"? The lighter the weight, the finer the individual threads.
