Honeymoons, anyone else not had one yet?

DH and I decided before our wedding that we were going to wait to have our honeymoon until it was cold in Minnesota.  We will be going to Florida in November :)  My anxiety about the honeymoon is kicking in, because we are having to rearrange excursions to accommodate changing costs of excursions.  Also, DH is more willing to think about excursions he wouldn't have before.

Anyone else not gone on there honeymoon yet?   If so, how are you doing on your planning?

Re: Honeymoons, anyone else not had one yet?

  • We haven't gone on ours. For us it was about money and work schedules. We didn't/don't have the money to go on one, and even if we did we are both head of our kitchens so managing to get any time off was not possible let alone at the same time.

We did get an amazing gift from his sister though. She is going to pay for plane tickets to Scotland and back as long as its any time after our 1st anniversary (so she can save the money) and she will watch our son while we are gone. So right now we are just saving money for everything else. We have alot of basic planning to do before we even start on our itinerary, we need to figure out when and how long we are going to take off. We also have to make sure our routes takes us through his sisters city so we can drop him off and pick him up.

So basically we havent even started any planning yet.

  • We took a mini-moon (Saturday - Monday at a nearby cabin and day trips to Gatlinburn and Dollywood). Now, we are saving up for more of a family vacation next summer. Isn't life with kids romantic?!? Wink

  • I guess we did have a "mini-moon" in a way.  We spent Saturday (18th) and Sunday (19th) nights in a hotel (one night in bridal suite, one night in free room due to mix up with the gift opening room at the hotel).  During the day on Sunday we spent with my family (which was fun since we don't see my siblings often) :)  So I would call it a "half-moon".

Our goal is to save up to go to Hawaii on our 5th or 10th anniversary.  We wanted that for our honeymoon, but couldn't afford it.  We both want to go there though, so it is our future goal.  We hope that even when we have kids we can still save up to go in 5 or 10 years.

  • We also have not had one. We just moved into our house that we have been remodeling for a couple years now(well pretty much rebuilding haha). So we decided we would rather have our house finished before we went on a HM. Hopefully we can go by next summer..
  • We postponed ours until December. DH had just taken the Bar Exam three weeks before the wedding, so he used up all his vacation time to study for that. He gets two more weeks starting in November, so we planned our trip to Hawaii (Big Island) for the first week in December. My mom gifted us with enough miles to cover tickets as our wedding gift, so that was a HUGE help!

To be honest, I'm glad we waited. I was EXHAUSTED for what felt like weeks after all that wedding craziness and I feel like I wouldn't have enjoyed the trip as much because all I would have wanted to do is sleep.
