HELP! trying to refinish nursery furniture

I am in the process of refinishing my nursery furniture and I am having a great deal of difficulty. I have sanded, primed and painted with nursery safe paint (no VOC's) but when I tried to seal it with polycrylic sealant, it keeps turning the white to yellow.  My question is, Do I HAVE to use a sealant if the paint (Sherman Williams Harmony) is nursery safe?

Any advice welcome,

Kristin

Re: HELP! trying to refinish nursery furniture

  • I'm no pro but I think you need a water based poly. Is yours oil based? That might be why it's turning it yellow.
  • I don't think you need to seal it a sealant once you painted the furniture. I had recently painted some of my home chairs and they are in perfect condition. Most of the paints provides the protection of a sealant also so you do not need to use one separately.

  • Our nursery furniture was oak, we painted it white and didn't seal it.  No yellowing 2 years later.
