etsy etiquette

So I get all excited about an item, I convo the seller to ask a question about customizing, etc. and I hear nothing. No reply.

I am not going to buy from a seller who can't respond to an inquiry.

Should I assume they are too busy (yes, I read all the shop notes about ordering time, etc.)? Don't want my business? How long do you wait for a reply?  I am new to the etsy marketplace.

Re: etsy etiquette

  • 48 hrs no response should be good unless otherwise noted.

They might also my to customization? Did you check their notes on that?

  • The notes are all "I LOVE to customize. Convo me for details."

Interesting, I checked the FB page of one who didn't respond. Too many posts about "have you gotten my emails?" and "when will our shirts be ready?" I don't need the stress. I'll find another seller.

  • ick... I've never had that problem on Etsy. Every seller I've purchased from has gotten back to me within the hour of my initial convo. I'd def look for another seller like you said above. Seems like this person has a track record of not responding. In general, though, I'd give it the 48 hours at the most like letranger said.

  • I agree with the others. I normally hear back so quickly.  I would see it as a red flag and try to find something else.  For Emma's birthday shirt I decided to go with a particular seller despite the fact they took days to get back and had notes on their facebook like...are you ever going to get back to me?  But they had a design I liked.  I ordered her shirt 6 weeks before her party.  Her turnaround time was listed as a week I think.  The shirt showed up overnighted the day before her party.  It was way too much stress for a stupid shirt.  Not worth the effort.  Good luck!
  • I move on if I haven't heard from them in a couple days. Everyone that I've asked questions to prior to purchasing got back with me instantly and they were positive buying experiences.  There have been 2 people that never responded so I didn't place an order and one where I ordered an item and then had terrible response times after.  Now I have to leave the feedback, I hate to leave bad feedback.  ugh.

  • Read their Etsy feedback too -- people are usually pretty honest, so you should be able to pick up on any chronic non-responsiveness. But like PPs said, I've found Etsy sellers to usually respond VERY quickly.
