Update on my life... long sorry.

I have just realized that I have not updated you on anything, and I am at my in-service and bored.

First, last Monday J and I went to a psychologist to discuss the possibility of him having aspergers. J said to me after the appointment "what just happened?" because the psychologist was so frank. I think we expected the psychologist to be wishy-washy, but he said that J does indeed have Aspergers. J is still a little stunned with how fast it all went, because it all happened within an hour. Again, we are not upset about it, actually, we are quite happy. There are so many techniques that I can now use to make both of our lives easier and happier.

He actually told his parents right away, which was a pretty big step for him. We haven't told my parents yet.

Then on Thursday, pretty abruptly, got told that he was going to become a full time employee at the company his dad works for, that he was working for as an intern. Full time at this company, though, is 12 hours a day, 5 days a week.  Those of you who know anything about Aspergers, knows that change, especially an abrupt change, is a big problem. Worse, we thought that he would have some time to adjust, but nope, this morning he started 12 hours. He ended up adjusting fairly well, but I am still worried that it is going to be too much for him and he is going to quit and do nothing. His attitude right now is that the pay increase is going to give us enough money to buy a house that we can afford.

Sorry for this getting so long, but I keep forgetting to make a new post, especially with everything going on.

  • I am so glad that J was able to get diagnosed and now you both know the truth. I am also happy that he got a full time job. In this economy that's GREAT. I do hope the change is not too much for him. I wish you both lots of luck!

  • I am so glad that you were able to get the information that you were looking for.  I know that transitions are hard, but here are a ton on strategies that he can do to calm himself.  Let me know if you need some help with anything.  I am licensed to diagnosis people/work their their disability after their diagnosis.

Thanks! I will let you know if we have any questions. The good thing is, since my job is one on one with a student with aspergers, I do have some experience with it.

  • That's great that you were able to get an answer for your hubby so quickly.  Now you can move forward in helping him with it.  I hope he adjusts well to 12 hour days.  I'm not even sure if I'd adjust well to those long hours.

  • I know I wouldn't adjust well, but he did do it for one summer before, and seemed to be in good spirits when he came home yesterday.

  • I am glad you were able to get a diagnosis, so you know exactlly what you are dealing with. It sounds like J has a great support system (and a great wife!). I think this will be huge in helping him with his new hours and adjusting to finally knowing what is "wrong" with him.
