Good morning!

How was the weekend?  Who is off today?

Re: Good morning!

  • living room and dining room are repainted and we are searching for heaters for same.  chairs are primed, stuff returned, and the great purge continues.   I wish I did not have to work today but those are the breaks.

  • You seem to be getting a lot accomplished this weekend.

I just got a much needed hair cut.  Relaxing the rest of the day. DH has work later today. Aiden and I may bake an apple pie!

  • im working today, but my weekend was good.  Had our first puppy class with Ben and he did great. I relaxed most of the weekend aside from cleaning and a few errands since i have a cold

  • Had dinner at my parents for my brother's birthday on Saturday and packed my husband's hospital bag. Sunday went shopping and did laundry.

I really need to tidy my house before the baby comes (though we're also getting a pro-cleaner to come whenever I go to the hospital), but I'm being lazy. Guess my nesting instinct has calmed down.

We've also had an influx of stink bugs coming in through the screens in our windows so I spent Friday googling methods of getting rid of them. We've been using mint alcohol and have only seen one since. I hope it's working! *knocks on wood*

Where do you get mint alcohol?  Did you spray whole home?  We've had 5 stink bugs in the house since we moved back.  I am waiting for the lady bugs to make an appearance.

  • I have work today and even N has to go in for a teacher's professional development day.  This weekend we went out to dinner on Friday, on Saturday had my windshield repaired (a rock hit it and it chipped), ran some errands (including the start of my nestie exchange package!), dinner with ILs, then relaxed and cleaned the house yesterday.  Yesterday my grandma went to the hospital again.  She has Alzheimer's and is also quickly deteriorating physically.  My grandpa takes care of her but she wouldn't get out of bed all week and then was complaining that her body hurt every time he tried to take her to the bathroom so he brought her in. We're kind of hoping that she gets moved to a nursing home after this because she's just gotten too bad for my grandpa to care for.  It stinks to see, but I'd rather he be able to live his life and just visit her then worry about him constantly caring for her.
  • Huge HUGS RBC.  I hope

  • sugar- they sell it right next to rubbing alcohol (it's rubbing alcohol plus mint oil). Hubby got ours at CVS and we just put it into a spray bottle. I'd never heard of it before I read about it during my research. Supposedly stink bugs don't like essential oils (like peppermint oil) so it keeps them away. I spray the screens and around the inside of the windows. We also sprayed most of the windows from the outside. My house now smells like peppermint schnapps yum! Also if you get their bellies with it directly, it kills them VERY quickly should you see a live one in your home. I didn't want to use anything harsh since we'll be bringing baby home soon so this was a good harmless solution. There are other solutions too, but they weren't working for us. I tried the soapy water (dawn and water) and it kills them, but didn't keep them away.

rb- I hope that it works out for your grandma. It must be very hard for your grandpa to watch that happen to her.

  • Thanks girls.  I talked to my mom and she said my grandpa has agreed that my grandma will stay in the hospital a few days and then be transferred to a nursing home. My grandpa is sad but knows that it's for the best since it's hurting his health at this point.
  • oh ok.  Hopefully there will be a place close to home. Could they both live at an assisted living place?

  • I think they found a nursing home that's really close by.  She's past assisted living and just needs full time care.  She has gotten to the point that she can't get out of bed herself, can't walk even with the walker unless someone stands behind her and basically holds her up and makes sure she doesn't fall over.  The nursing home will be close enough that my grandpa can go by every day.  I think he's looking forward to having more of a routine so he can go visit her every day but also have his life back a little.  He actually still works part time and goes to the gym and walks on the treadmill several times a day.  Not exactly your typical 85 yo :)
