I've been so forgetful lately.

I knew it was a matter of time before something happened due to my forgetfulness and it happened Friday night.  We have a cat water fountain and once a month I take it apart and scrub it.  I decided to put it in the laundry tub to soak with some cleaner.  I put the plug in the tub and started to fill it up.  I also had the washer on.  It's a habit to close the laundry room door when the washer is on and that's just what I did.  I TOTALLY FORGOT THAT I LEFT THE FAUCET ON.  I was feeding the cats, playing with Madison, and took some things upstairs.  The water was running for 20 minutes before I came into the kitchen and saw the water all over the kitchen floor.  I ran in and turned off the faucet and started throwing towels down.  DH was out cutting the grass so I put Madison in her pack and play and went to get the wet vac.  I turned on the light to the basement and see water down there too!!  I freaked and ran out and got DH.  It was a mess.  We had to pull out the washer and dryer. It was in the cabinet under the sink.  I'm pretty sure it went throught the wall and under the island in the kitchen.  I am praying there is no damage.  It went down the vent in the laundry room so DH had to drill 3 small holes in the duct work in the basement to drain the water.  I felt so bad.  DH was pissed when he came in and said a few bad words, but was teasing me about it later saying things like I was jsut trying to get out of mopping the kitchen floor, etc.

Luckily, the rest of the weekend was MUCH better and I still have tomorrow off. Smile

  • Oh my goodness that is awful!

Obviously every situation is different but if it makes you feel any better I did something similar when I was little (left the faucet on in an upstairs bathroom and it came down into the kitchen) and there was no lasting damage.

  • oh no!! I probably would have freaked out
  • Oh man!! We have had a few incidents like this at our house! Our washer drains into a sink, twice something clogged the sink and when the water drained it flooded the basement! I totally understand! Luckily we do not have carpet on our unfinished side of our basement, otherwise it would have been alot worse! Hopefully there is no long term damage.
