I got a coupon for a free two month membership to BJ's and I went today to check it out. I used another coupon a while back but never ended up buying to much there. I am really just shopping for my husband and I. Just wondering for those who do go to places like that what you usually buy. I did some calculations and in a lot of cases it is cheaper to buy the item not in bulk. It depends though.
I did get this good deal, a HUGE pack of Charmin toilet paper (I think it equaled out to 80 regular rolls) for 18 dollars PLUS I had a coupon for buying that I got a free 4 pack of kleenex tissues (5 dollar value) I was definitely happy about that one.
I got tuna in a 10 pack for around 8 bucks (it worked out to 85 cents a can) Not bad... but I have seen this same brand from time to time go on sale for 48 cents a can which is a GREAT deal! You have to catch the sale though...
And I got low fat string cheese 36 for 7.79. This was a good deal because I had a manufacturers coupon for 3 dollars off the purchase of two, and the coupon didnt work but then I complained about it and they let me use it anyways so it was an awesome deal! 4 bucks for 36 string cheeses!
I found that toothpaste, gum, and a lot of health and beauty needs were better off purchased not in bulk.
Would love to hear others thoughts on all of this. Thanks! Oh and I don't think it would be worth me paying 40 dollars for a 14 month membership, I don't think I would use it often enough for me to justify that.
Re: Wholesale clubs
I agree with you! We have a membership b/c I get it free from my work. Otherwise, it is cheaper to watch the sales and buy that way. Rolls and sheet cakes are much cheaper there if you have a party, but again not worth the yearly membership.
And, I am not sure if baby stuff would be a deal there?!?!?!? Diapers, formula etc....
We had a membership to Sam's Club and it expired, but I don't think we will be renewing. Our household is just my husband and I so we only buy in bulk about every 3 months. I would get laundry detergent, Parmesan cheese, syrup, ketchup and toilet paper/paper towels. At the time of shopping there I always find more stuff, but then I have to consider freezer space and storage space. I think I will just borrow a membership next time.
Did you see the email article just sent on bulk shopping?
I go to Sam's, but would prefer Costco or BJ's (esp BJ's for baby stuff), but Sam's is closest to me and my parents have memberships at Costoc and BJ's. At Sam's I use their brand of pampers & baby wipes, but even pampers brand is way cheaper - i barely go to the store as they have free shipping on both. Some baby/kids clothes - they are cheaper than the Carter's outlet, even w/coupons, etc - limeted selection.
I also buy laudry detergent and it last's forever, paper towels, toliet paper (I mainly go when those things run out). They are much cheaper for steak and other meats. I go mostly when we are hving a party or comany. If it wasn't for the baby stuff, I would probably cancel.
