in Philadelphia Nesties
The reason DH is back is because he's on medical leave. He found a lump on his neck in August and we received confirmation yesterday that he has thyroid cancer. It's very treatable but he will have to have his thyroid removed in November and undergo radiation treatment. He'll also have to be on medication for the rest of his life, which I think bothers him the most. It's a crappy situation but I'm trying to look on the bright side. I've got him home, hopefully this will get him to quit smoking for good, and it could have been much much worse. If he's got to have a form of cancer, I'm happy he's got one that is so treatable and with a very high survival rate.

    oh NQ I'm so very sorry to hear this but I'm so thankful the Dr's can treat him. Being on meds for the rest of his life sucks but the alternative sucks even more. Good luck to both him and you and I hope he has a quick recovery. T&P going out to you both. Stay strong, he's got this!

    EFF, EFF, EFF. I'm so sorry. This sucks. I am so very sorry, but it sounds like there is a good treatment plan in place. If you need to vent, please do so here. The mister and I went through my own personal health scare when we first started dating. Lots of strength and positive thoughts--HEALING thoughts--headed your way.

    Thank god he caught it early, and that he's still young.  It'll be a rough couple of months, but you'll get through it and then be able to move on.  Here's to a speedy recovery!

    NQ - so sorry to hear this. A very good friend of mine went through it and so did my MIL. It is very treatable but dosing the meds can be a pain, so just make sure that your DH stays his own advocate and speaks up when he doesn't feel like they are working.

    Thanks everyone! I think the hardest part was the not knowing. Now that we know what it is and have a plan of attack, we're able to prepare for the next couple of months and be optimistic about the treatment. I'll certainly let you guys know how things progress and I'm sure I'll check in from time to time, most likely to vent or rant. I'm happy he's back, but this is also the guy that packed his dishes dirty when he moved back. He's left up to his own devises while I'm away at work and I'm willing to bet he'll be driving me crazy in a matter of weeks...if not days.

    Sorry to hear this, NQ. I will keep you guys in my thoughts. My aunt had thyroid cancer two years ago, so if you or your husband have any questions about treatment, recovery, etc. let me know and I'll ask her.
