Planning bio (updated 3/3)
salems less than an hour from boston. if it were me i'd stay in boston and just spend part of a day there. if you're looking for other day trips gloucester's a good one.
I'm from Mystic and it's a great town! I appreciate it much more now that I don't live there, and DH and I have fun being "tourists" when we go visit my family. I've never really stayed in the hotels or B&Bs there (because I lived there) but a few years ago my mom paid for DH and I to have a night away from our kids so she got us a package (dinner + suite) at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods. It's not in Mystic but it's super close. It was awesome!
What time of year are you going? Depending on that, Mystic has lots of activities geared around the seasons. A lot of times when we plan our family visits we plan around when something big is going on up there. There are lots of great restaurants. If you're specifically looking for seafood I recommend Abbotts, but they are only open during the summer, so it depends on when you are going. Other places I like are Mystic Pizza, Steak Loft, S&P Oyster, and Azu. Downtown Mystic and Olde Mistick Village are fun places to walk around and shop.
