I am feeling worried, a little concerned, and I am not certain of what to do. I had been on depo on and off for about 10 years. Every time I was due for a shot (every 3 months), or I took a break from it, I would get my period. Well, I decided that March would be my last shot and hope that in the summer we could TTC. June came and I should have started my period, but it didn't come. I thought maybe my body was a little off, so it needed a little more time. I waited a few more months and then nothing. I get cramps, but nothing happens. I was at the doctor's a month ago and mentioned it to him. He ran a pregnancy test, which came back negitive (anything is possible, I guess) and he prescribed a medication that would get things going again (forget what it was called). I took it for 10 days like it said to. I had the usual cramps, irritability, and about a day of spotting. That was it. Here it is October, and still nothing.
I just don't know what do to. I am worried and not sure if I should call my doctor, or wait until my appointment next month. I have never had this happen before, and I find it concerning, especially as I get older (I'm 36). I also have another health issue that I need to deal with before we TTC (not related to this issue), so it will push us to wait probably a year and a half because of the medication I had to take, if it even works.
All of this is breaking my heart and I just needed to talk to someone.
Re: Feeling worried...need some advice
I would call your doctor. If you're not getting your period at all, or just random days of spotting, it could have to do with your body re-adjusting to things, but like you said it's been a while, and if you're not having regular menstrual cycles, TTC could be a lot more difficult (especially trying to track when you're ovulating etc.)
I'd call and have yourself checked out again. It's been quite a while since you were given the medicine to get your period, and after not even getting it with the meds, I think that going to the doctor will make you feel better since he should be able to figure out whats going on instead of you worrying about what is happening...good luck!

Thanks for the advice, both of you.
Kushie...I have had my thyroid checked recently and it's good. I was always assured while taking depo I would be fine and it wouldn't do any damage. I made an appointment for next week and I will mention it to him. In the past I never had a problem with it.
Thanks again.
Kushie had good advice. My sister's thyroid was all wacked out (hypothyroidism) and she still managed to get KTFU. lol
If it were me I would want to see my doctor again, and maybe get another round of provera. Something else that might help is to start charting your temps and other fertility signs. Also get Taking Charge of Your Fertility, it's got a lot of great stuff in there, and anything you can do to get to know your body better will help both you and your doctor.
Good luck! I hope you get your AF soon!

This is one of the lovely side effects to the depo which is one reason my doctor would never let me do it. Eventually it will come back just it may take up to like a year I think. I would say maybe mention it to the doctor next time you go next month but waiting till then shouldn't be a problem unless something else happens between then.
All these ladies have given great advice. Praying for AF!
I can't help you on the depo as I have never used it. I used to use BC and through the years my Dr. had put me on just about every pill on the market. After dealing with the most severe cramps and a period that would literally go for 2 weeks (awful) I finally stopped taking the BC and because of my polycystic disease. I took me longer than a year before I had my period again. Both good and bad! I kept going to my Dr and she just kept telling me not to worry it will jump start again when it wants or needs to. She was right, it did finally come back but it seemed to take forever (not that I was really wishing it would come back).
I think it's a great idea that you have a Dr.'s appointment already scheduled. It will ease your mind and perhaps they can give you some insight on what is going on.
GL and let us know what they tell you....

I just wanted to say I'm of a similar age and encountered a health problem right before the wedding that has us postponing TTC for now and I'm not sure when we'll be starting. It's just really disappointing and frustrating. I ended BC a little before the wedding and it's taken a bit to get back to normal.
I had a number of friends say after getting of various forms of BC it took from 6 months to a year and a half to get back to normal.
So I just wanted to say- you are not alone.
