can I share some exciting news (no - not that :)

My pernanent cankles might be going away soon!!!

I have a congential condition where my lower legs/ankels/feet (and even toes to a small extent) are constantly swollen.  This has been going on since I was around 10 or so - my mom has the same issue, her father had it also.

I talked my pediatrician about it when I was 17 or 18 and he was just like "yeah, sucks to be you" its called Elephant Legs (nice!) and there's not really much to be done about it unless you have a really serious case and basically can't walk, etc. and then its this horrifying surgery that could actually make it worse - so he suggested I just elevate my feet whenever possible, and minimize sodium and live with it.

I got it checked again about 10 years ago (by a specialist) and again was basically told I have a minor case, not much to be done for it, keep an eye on it and just make sure it doesn't get worse.

So. ..  I have resigned myself to ugly legs/feet and being constantly self conscious about this.

As I said before, my mom has the same problem, but hers is much worse than mine and she's never done anyting about it.  However, recently her doctor made her go see a specialist and he prescribed a special machine for her that moves the fluid out of her legs.  She told me about it and the doctor and was suggesting I see him too to get my legs checked - I thought it was good to get it checked, but didn't think he could do much for me.

I was totally wrong - he prescirbed the same machine for me - and it came last night.  Its kinda hilarious - giant blue nylon "socks" over my whole lower leg - but the tech who came said I will be able to see results in 2-3 weeks.  I seriously have not had a defined ankle in 30 years.

I have to do the pump for about an hour a day - but its not a big deal, I can just do it while I watch TV or whatever.  I am so beyond excited that I can easily fix this problem.  I guess i should still be guarded about this, but I can definitely see the difference my mom's has made already and she's only been doing it for a month - anyway - woohoo me and my ankles!!!

The doctor also said I'd probably lose weight from all the trapped fluid moving out of my legs.
