Please tell me about your life with a CR-V and kid(s). Do you feel comfortable in it? Is it big enough? If you had two infant car seats and a double stroller do you think you'd still fit comfortably?
The Dude is hard core pushing for a mini van. He thinks with two infant seats, stroller, quite possibly our 65lb dog and two adults we'll never be able to go anywhere comfortably. I see his point but obviously want real life opinions. I just got this car 3 years ago and I have no car payment so I want to be absolutely sure before I take on a possible monthly expense.

Re: CR-V owners w/ kids
We love our CR-V (we're usually "small car" people so we thought this car was huge when we first got it). It would comfortably fit two infant seats in the back and possibly your double stroller in the middle (or on the floor in the backseat, depending on how flat it folds). Then, the greyhound in the back.
We don't plan on getting a different car when DS#2 arrives...we think the CR-V will work just fine.
Thanks! I went from a 2 door VW turbo engine to my CR-V so I felt the same way..like I was driving a giant vehicle.
Did you feel like you had to move the passenger seat up a lot to fit the seat behind it? Obviously we're going to buy the car seats first and see but I'm just curious. Dude is 6'2" so I'm wondering if he'll fit comfortably?

When Oliver was in an infant seat, we could have the passenger seats back and still fit stuff on the floor without a problem. Now that he's in a convertible seat and facing forward (with a DVD player), there is less room at his feet. We can still shove stuff there (like a tote bag or weekend bag) but there is less room and if we're going away for the weekend or longer, I move the passenger seat up a bit. I think you should give it a try first, before buying a new car. I think it'll work just fine at least until they move to the larger carseats!
We are definitely buying car seats first and then if necessary, we'll look into another vehicle. I think if we do find we need something bigger, we'll probably also buy something from 2010 or so. Not brand new. Just fact finding and opinion gathering for now
0602 - I've heard the Chevy is great. I've visited two multiples boards and that cars comes up a lot in discussions.

My dad has a 2012 CR-V which is the new body style, and I think it would be fine with two car seats. I am not sure about the other years though. I think most of the changes with the 2012 were with the actual exterior as oppsed to the interior.
In addition to a CR-V, DH and I talked about a Honda Pilot and a GMC Acadia (which is the twin to the Chevy Traverse) for when we finally are in a position to replace my 94 Accord. I like the look of the Acadia better than the Traverse. I also think both models have captain's chairs for the second row (my friend has an Acadia). Since I am 5 feet tall, I think I may have a problem driving the Pilot and Acadia, so I would take over our 04 Accord for daily use and he would drive the family car to work.
Speaking of my 94 Accord, we are going to get it fixed up. Thanks for the advice! Hopefully it doesn't die on us once it's fixed lol.
Yeah if you don't mind that would be great. It can't hurt to hear about other experiences people are having. Dude just wants me/us to start researching.

Thanks everyone!! I appreciate the advise, asking neighbors, siblings, etc. This is really helpful.
NQ - if they decided they dont have a home for those cribs..holla at me!

The dog might push me over but I'm pro minivan. But we are planning to do two kids in our Jetta, but we won't have a dog or care about traveling with friends. .
Emailed them! If they've got anything I think you might be interested in, I'll let you know.
MZ - I haven't even begun to think about strollers. Or really anything at this point other than the car and that was just bc Dude keeps bringing it up. My sister says she already knows what stroller I HAVE to have but I have yet to ask her what that is haha.
I should say..I'm not super anti minivan. I'm not like omg i want one! but i'm also not oh helllz no. I'm more in the "i will if its an absolute necessity" camp.

We have a crv and it will be upgraded when we have #2 someday. It's already cramped with a big convertible seat and that is in the middle. My guy is 6-4 and his knees nearly hit the dash when the seat is all the way back. A carseat behind him would not allow him to fit in the car, no joke.
Even now when we all go somewhere we usually take his f150.
Sorry, I know you prob don't want to hear that!
Also, re the car seats you might want deal with the car issue first. Seats aren't always universal and some are very large and don't fit in all cars.
I'd hate to see you get 2 seats and then have them not fit.
If you don't have it yet, get Baby Bargains. Awesome book.
You're right. I don't. But I do if its the truth because we need to plan accordingly. Obviously we need to get a move on finding the car seats we want.
What year is your car? I have the '09 so its the newer style with the tire in the truck, not on the back. Not sure if that at all makes a difference though with the sapce inside the car.

Mine is the 2006 model, so it's the model right before the re-do. And I could be wrong but I think the model I have has more interior space in the hatch.
what kind of car does your guy drive, though? If he has a truck or bigger car then you you could just get 2 bases for his car.

Eta: you could test out your current car by just borrowing 2 carseats from friends OR by going to a store like BRU. BRU will let you test a carseat to see if it will fit. I'm sure if you explain that you're having twins they will let you walk outside with 2 seats. I think you just have to leave your license with them or something similar.
Dude drives an '09 Subaru Tribeca but its a company car so we'd like to have my car be the main car that we use so we know we're keeping it. He gets a new car every 4-5 years and while they'll always let him get something big, we don't want to rely on that. And actually, his back seat doesn't have the room that mine does bc he has a 3rd row and that makes for less room in the 2nd row.
I think maybe we'll go to BRU and see if we can take the seats out to the car and then sit in the car and see. When I babysat my 9 month old nephew a few weeks ago the passenger seat was pulled up further than I keep my seat. Thats what kicked off this whole idea.
