Bedwetting regression help

DD willbe 3 next week.  She has been potty trained for almost 3 months (usually a poop accident every 2 weeks or so bc it's a hard poop and painful for her).

The past few days, she's wet the bed the past 2 nights, had an accident on the playground, and an accident at home.  We have been traveling but we traveled before without problems.   We cut back drinks at night, make her begrudgingly go potty before bed, etc.   tomorrow, she will have to wear pull-ups bc I don't want to risk accident being too far away from room.

Re: Bedwetting regression help

  • is it possible she has a UTI?  My mom insists that when ever we would have accident suddenly  and often we would end up sick with something.

     Good Luck!

  • Dd has had many phases of having accidents over the last 2 years since she has been PTed. Luckily not many overnight. But if its only been a couple days I wouldn't worry too much. The traveling could be the issue. Even if you've done it before without problems. Dd tends to go through accident phases during times of change (particularly any daycare change). I'd just keep reminding and see how things go. Once dd is in a phase it lasts awhile though and we usually have to go back to reward chart for incentive.

  • Constipation can cause pee accidents.  You said she has some hard poops.  We've dealt with a lot of constipation issues with my oldest dd.  She is now on a daily dose of miralax to keep things running smoothly.  It might be worth talking to the pedi.

You know this reminded me of a friend saying same thing happened with her daughter because the hard stool would press on her bladder causing the accident.

  • We always have a mandatory potty trip as part of bedtime, and since we quit the overnight pullups have not had any accidents overnight. But EJ still sometimes forgets to take a break to go potty because she gets too involved in something.  I wouldn't go back to pullups in that situation- but would rather pay attention to when she last went and start suggesting taking a break to go while you are out and about.  even if it is just a suggestion of "remember to let me know when you  have to go to the batrhoom and we can find one"
  • DD has had 2 bouts with accidents, one being when she was testing to see how long she could hold it.  These usually happened on her way to the potty or in the bathroom right in front of hte potty.

The second set involved bed wetting a few nights in a row and daytime accidents.  This time she said it hurt when she went potty.  We took her to the doctor and they did a urinalysis which came back clear, but the problem seemed to sort itself out within a few more days.

I don't think I'd want to go back to pull-ups for a few accidents.  I think they're just part of being 3 (and 4 and sometimes 5...)  I would be fearful that a return to pullups would cause more of a regression.

  • Heather, my little control freak, had very few accidents during the day or at night when she was first learning. Then while we were on vacation - 4 months after she had trained and not her first trip in underwear - she an accident every day for a week or two. She was 3 1/2. It was all about being 3. It was SUPER annoying, but we didn't go back to pullups. We reminded her that she was a big girl who knew how to use the potty and we made her help us clean up after herself. Girl had to walk around Hershey Park in wet pants because she chose not to pee in the potty. Oh, and Todd had a virus that week, too.  Fun trip.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Todd has been in underwear since April and he is still not totally reliable to stay dry. He goes through phases  where he stays dry day and night for weeks. And then he'll have a week that he pees overnight 3 times or has random accidents while we are at home and after we offered him the potty.

Truly, some days I HATE three.
