Easy and cost effective way to attach scrapbook paper to canvas

What is the best product to use to attach scrapbook paper to canvases?  Also, is there a certain process I should be following in order to make the end product smooth?  I will eventually be attaching things on top of the scrapbook paper (decals), if that matters.

 Thanks!

  • I hadn't answered yet because I thought someone might have a better idea/understand the question more, but since no one has I'll throw my 2 cents in.

What is the point of putting scrapbook paper over canvas...usually when people are using canvas its because they like the texture of it...scrapbook paper would cover up the texture...if it is for thickness use cardboard instead, its cheaper and the paper will look better on it.

Having said that if you want to put the paper on top...photo tape (make sure its the permanent type not the repositional type) along the edges should work. Or modpodge if you want to make it kind of 'part of the canvas'. Or staples..but they would show....

  • I use this: http://www.dickblick.com/products/liquitex-gel-mediums/ I have the regular gloss but prefer the matte. For this canvas, I just used it as a glue on the back side. http://pinterest.com/pin/273945589803137247/  Where it got on the front side, you can see some spots but I think using the matte would solve that problem.

  • Not sure but good luck!
  • I just did this for a wall decor project.  I used Mod Podge for both gluing the paper onto the canvas and also as the top finish.  I didn't really have to smooth the paper down.  It bubbles up a little but when it dries the paper goes flat.

  • I haven't done this but in theory I'd try this although no idea how it'd come out:

I'd use the same stuff and do it the same way as you put up wall paper. It may be overkill but maybe it'd come out that much better?
