I had posted on here awhile back asking for ideas from people who were involved in their neighborhood, planned activities for kids, etc.... As an update, I did end up having an end of the summer ice cream party at my house, and it was great! We had a nice turnout, about 8 kids and their parents. I set the invitation up so that everyone could sign up for an ice cream topping, I supplied the ice cream and drinks. The kids had a great time, and it was nice to get to know other parents in the area.
If I have time to do it in December, I'd like to host a holiday get together at my house. My idea is to have the kids come in their PJ's, decorate a cookie, and then watch "the polar express".
I was also asked last week to serve on the board for our neighborhood association as a block captain, and the dorky side of me was very flattered. The first meeting is tomorrow night, so I'm anxious to hear what they're working on.
So for those of you who wanted to get something rolling in your neighborhood, I say do it! It was worth the very little time and effort it took me to throw something together, and now I feel like I have many more people to reach out to to be able to plan things in the future, even if it's small play dates once winter hibernation hits.
Re: update to getting more involved in my neighborhood
How fun!
I was just flattered that we got "Boo'd" last night - not once, but twice! (I wasn't home and DH said the doorbell rang at 8:30p with #1 and before he got the chance to get the tape to tape up the ghost, there came a knock at the door with #2!)
My three sons!
