going to LA early Nov. with a group of mom friends. Staying at W hotel in Hollywood. Suggest places/shows/entertainment that is a MUST see and restaurants.
Re: LA for 3 days
HIGHLY recommend the TMZ tour!! Did it a few months ago and had a blast!!
For the OP...the big show in town is Book of Mormon. Playing right across the street from the W in Hollywood. Not sure if tickets are still available, but they do a lottery before each show.

I really like the Farmer's Market (you can also go to The Grove which is attached -- good place for celeb spotting..although I still just prefer the Farmer's Market). http://www.farmersmarketla.com/
Head to Santa Monica...go to The Penthouse for a drink. The views are amazing. A sort of fun/kitchy restaurant (with good food) is The Stinking Rose in Beverly Hills.
Another fun "girls day" is to have tea at the Huntington Library. Just call in advance to make a reservation...they book up. I've also heard that the tea at The Peninsula is quite nice as well.
