The illnesses are getting old very quickly

It's never ending.  Between Parker having a cold, Braden getting the cold, me getting the cold, DH getting the cold, 5 days of health, the stomach virus claiming all of us over the course of a week, a few days of health, round 2 of colds, a few days of health and now round 3 of colds, I'm spent!  How in the world do I get these kids to stop touching their mucous membranes?  I realize that Braden is teething and it's really difficult for him...but Parker...shouldn't he be over all this touching his face, stuff?  Or am I just way too annoyed with illness to be rational?

Re: The illnesses are getting old very quickly

  • It sucks, but there's nothing you can do to stop it.  Kids get everything that comes down the pike.   And just when you think you've had everything, your oldest will go to kindergarten and bring home all kinds of new germs!  (We never had strep until Noah went to kindergarten...we all had it by October that year.)  Enjoy the healthy days in between and look forward to middle school and high school when their immune systems are stronger.
  • With Parker starting preschool--there are more germs to come.  When DD started daycare eons ago, she very rarely got sick.  However, she brought every germ home to me and I got sick!

The stomach bugs are horrible, especially when they take down the whole family, but snotty noses are just part of the territory.  And I wouldn't count on Parker not touching his mucous membranes until atleast middle school [:-P]

Hope you and your boys get some relief soon!

  • yep, it is terrible isn't it?  I feel like we are in a stable place now, with just an occasional cold and maybe one sick visit to the doctors a year. We did the marathon sickness cycle through the winter EJ turned 1 (her first full cold season in daycare).  It was horrid.  Between that and general sleeplessness that comes with little kids we were a wreck. I am hoping the introduction to Kindergarten won't be as harsh for us. But like Amber said, it is just part of the joys of parenting.
  • We were at the pedi once a week for the whole month of September.  I felt like I was going over the edge saying, "get your fingers out of your nose and use a tissue!!!" every 2 minutes.  Home schooling is looking really good right now.
