30th Birthday Ideas

One of my best friends/cousin is turning 30 in a few weeks. Her husband, myself, and a few others are planning a surprise party for her. It's going to be out on a big ranch in a brand new house that has a good inside/outside entertainment area. We are thinking a color scheme of fallish colors (turquoise, oranges, purples, etc). But, that's about all we've got. Do you have any suggestions as far as decorations, set up, etc? We are needing things on the cheaper side and don't have any problem DIY'ing.

Also, I'm having trouble figuring out a fun, quirky gift that won't cost me an arm and a leg and a kidney. My bff/cousin is doing a '30 things for my favorite 30 year old' kind of thing. I thought about doing the '30 sucks' with the blow pops (or whatever kind of sucker), but I didn't know if it was lame or not... but I'd also like to do something in addition to that.

So... any ideas you may have to throw my way for the party or the gift, I'd really appreciate it!

Re: 30th Birthday Ideas

  • My mom had a 30th birthday party for my twin brothers earlier this year. She did an 80s theme. She also had a Mario Brother's cake made. She found music from the year they were born and had that playing. She made a collage with some pictures. Here is the cake:

  • If your doing a fallish theme get some pumpkins and hay bales to decorate with. For table decor decorate small pumpkins (lots of cute ideas on Pinterest) and use leaf garland as a table runner. Not sure you want to go that "fall" on the deocor or not.

If you want to do a western theme get some horseshoes and bandana for decor along with hay bales.

  • Like PP said, there are a lot of cute ways to decorate pumpkins on Pinterest. I'd do that.

As for a gift, does your cousin drink? For my sisters 21st birthday I made her a liquor bouquet with 21 mini bottles. It was a little more relevant since it was her 21st, but it was so cute! She loved it!

  • I like the fall theme. You could get cheap fabrics and swath them around for a classy look. And definitely pumpkins. If this party will be in October, a fun activity could be pumpkin carving. If it's in November, then bonus: pumpkins will be cheap!

As far as a gift, there are a ton of tutorials on Pinterest for all sorts of fun gifts, from bracelets to cookie mixes.
