Arizona

I am planning a trip for my DH and I go to Arizona. Neither of us have been there before. I want to spend some time in Phoenix as well as Sedona and possibly Flagstaff. Any recommendations of what to make sure we see? Also what area should we stay in? Should we try in Phoenix or Sedona?

Re: Arizona

  • I live outside of Phoenix and do staycations here all of the time! We love to stay in Scottsdale either near the mall area (Phoenician is our fav there) or in North Scottsdale at the Westin Kierland. We also enjoy the Four Seasons or The Boulders, but those are a bit father north and somewhat removed from restaurants and shops. If you plan to golf, there are a ton of excellent courses, but be prepared to spend a fortune unless you are traveling here in the summer. If you are traveling here in the summer, be prepared for A LOT of heat. Sedona and Flagstaff are much better in terms of temperature. I would probably not choose to stay in Flag. There is not much there, unless you are planning to travel in the winter and ski. Sedona is pretty, but is a little touristy in certain areas. I'm not sure what your budget is, but there is a Hilton there, as well as Enchantment and L'Auberge (both are $$$!) What exactly are you looking to do in each place?

  • I went to Phoenix a couple times within the past year to visit friends. I'm not much help regarding hotels because once we stayed with a friend and the other time I just Pricelined a hotel, but I do have information about some of the stuff we did and restaurants we tried in my blog if you'd like to take a look.

  • You have to see the Grand Canyon! A couple of days there, a couple in Sedona. You can do a day trip from Sedona to the GC, I think it's around 2 hours away. I wasn't crazy about the Phoenix, Scottsdale areas. You go through Flagstaff on the way to the GC from Phoenix, it's about a 4 hour drive from Phoenix to GC. I've also heard good things about Jerome, its about 30 miles from Sedona to Jerome.

I second the Grand Canyon!! It is so beautiful..My hubby and I went a few years ago when we were in Las Vegas. We did the west rim of the Grand Canyon. Very beautiful!! We took a helicopter ride and then a boat tour of the Colorado River. They also have a beautiful indian reservation there and a glass skywalk over the canyon.
