teachers...

I'm being observed soon. Good news is that it's during a class where I have a great group of kids :) However, it is a school spirit day (pj day).

Would you:

a) wear your pjs to show school spirit

b) dress normally to show professionalism

c) dress professionally during observation, then switch to pjs afterward

I participated in the spirit days last year, and it was a ton of fun. Unfortunately this is the only few days that we have spirit days for the entire school year. The students really seem to enjoy seeing teachers participate.

Re: teachers...

  • I'm not a teacher but I vote to participate!  I think it will show administration and the kids that you participate and have fun.
  • My answer depends on who observes you.  If it's someone from your school, I vote go for the PJ's.  If it is someone from central office, I would probably dress more professionally unless this spirit day is district wide.

  • I would ask the administrator that is observing you. I know that professional dress is part of what we are evaluated on and with how to the letter our new prinicipal is, he probably wouldn't want us to dress in PJs. I think it just depends on who is observing. Good luck!

  • I agree with elishabelle to ask ahead of time.  That way you will know and that will be one less thing you have to worry about it on that day.  Plus, then they can focus on your teaching and tell you ways to improve and not focus on what you are wearing.  (I know professional clothing is important, but you know what I mean.)  It depends on the the person observing you.  One might think you are not a team player if you don't dress in your PJs and another might think you are not dressed appropriately because you are dressed in your PJs.  You can always bring your PJs to change into.  Good luck.  Let us know what you decide!
