I'm a planner. But sometimes things just happen at the last minute. I talked to my Doctor on the 5th at my appointment about when I should check out the childbirth classes. She told me once I passed 14 weeks I could take them at any time but to call soon since they fill up quickly. Yeah it took my until yesterday to remember to call.
Class started yesterday. Ha ha! Good thing I called! Not what I needed to add to my crazy Tuesday. Tuesday's are the one night a week I don't have class. But if we didn't take this current class, we'd have to wait until the class that started at the end of January and it wouldn't be over until the week I was due. I wasn't comfortable waiting that long, what if I'm early, ect. So we started our childbirth class last night. It's on Tuesdays from 6:30-9:00 and it's 8 weeks long. We have two weeks off - Election day and the week of Thanksgiving. So we'll finish the week before Christmas.
I'm excited for this class. It's at the hospital we'll deliver at. Included in the class is a "tour" of the delivery room and they walk us through what we can personalize to make it feel more like a home birth. We'll also have access to a doula during one class to get more information from her. The class covers labor, delivery, and postpartum care of mom and baby. DH wasn't overly thrilled at first but by the time we got home he said it was a lot better than he expected. I think he liked getting out of the house for a few hours too. Mostly introductions last night and lots of handouts. We did watch a video of a birth. We both agreed that taking this class definitely makes baby feel a lot more real.
Re: Childbirth Classes
Haha.... thought this would match here.
The gifted teacher just compared to Joseph Campbell's Hero cycle to childbirth. The baby is the hero and the contractions are the call to adventure. Just hilarious.
I just gave you all what you are going to think about when you have contractions, because you are not going to be able to think about it.

Tara - my DH was hoping for a one day thing. LOL. I think it would be better if you are limited in the amount of time you have to go to class. Honestly it would really be better for me to go to just one session. But this was the only class at my hospital and I didn't want to go somewhere else for my class. Plus it was only $50 total for both hubby and I.
If you do get a one day class, you'll have to let me know how it goes and what's covered.
I just looked at the website for the hospital that I am delivering at and they do have listed the one day birth class. I'm happy because if I work at the community college again next semester then I'll have to be out of the house two nights a week.
I'll let you know, but by that time you will probably have already had your baby.
