post-partum clothing vent - recs needed

I'm 6w PP and just went to my dr appt.  I was surprised to learn that I have 18 pounds to get to my pre-preg weight.  I don't feel like I look that much bigger, but I can tell in my clothes, especially around my hips/butt.  Not a single pair of pants fit, aside from yoga and sweats.  At this point, I really need at least one pair of jeans that fit nice, but I don't want to spend a ton since I hope to lose the excess weight in the near future.  I went to Old Navy today and tried on every single pair of jeans they carry...none fit me right and actually made me look worse that I do in my frumpy maternity yoga pants.  Anyone have any recs on stores to check out?  I'm willing to go to KoP but would like to keep the price around $50ish.

For those who BF, how much (if any) weight did your body hold onto while you were nursing?

And, did you hips ever shrink back at all?

Re: post-partum clothing vent - recs needed

  • I really recommend Levi's. I bought a new pair every time I was down a size. The fits are very kind to new moms.

My hips are smaller then pp with milo. But it took a year. Even now twenty pounds below pp with m my old stuff doesn't fit exactly right.

  • I feel your pain.  I haven't had my 6w checkup yet, but even without weighing myself, I definitely am feeling frumpier and more out of shape than I did after having Aisling.  With her, I breastfed and lost weight way quickly and was back in regular clothes very quickly.  This time, I am still breastfeeding, but I just don't feel like I'm getting back to my pp body at all- granted it's only been 4 weeks, but I just feel so blah and am living in the same two pair of black leggings and some sweats.  Ugh.  I will say though that I just did the other day put on a pair of Daisy Fuentes jeans someone gave me for my birthday last year and they fit fantastic and for a day I didn't feel like an out of shape lump.  I've never owned any of her other stuff so I don't know if it's the whole brand that fits so flattering or if this is a fluke, but they carry them at Kohl's I believe if you wanted to try.  Good luck!

  • I am a year pp, my weight was at 6 weeks (and now) is still at getting pregnant weight (which is overweight) I've tried WW and working out but my body hangs on to the weight while nursing. I'm soon done and I'm hoping it'll help me jump start and start losing weight.

  • I'm 11 months PP and I cannot get rid of like 10 pounds.  I can wear most of my pre-preggo stuff, but some of my old pants just don't fit right anymore.  When I was BF, I had zero energy.  Once I stopped, my energy rebounded some, but I just have zero time to work out :(  I also never got the post-delivery contractions everyone kept talking about, even when nursing ... I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not, but I did NOT find that BF helped me shed the weight I put on what so ever.
  • My flabby-ness (not weight or fat, but flimsy skin) was there until she was probably 8 or 9 months.  The weight came off fast, but the skin stretch took longer.  I only bf for 5 weeks, so I can't tell you my experience with that in regards to weight.

After having her, I thought I was so small, but I was used to being 9 mo pg, so my perception was skewed; pictures proved that I was not small.  It takes time.

  • I have been BF for nearly 11.5 months and I still have a muffin top though my weight is the same as pre-preg (in August, someone asked me if I was expecting #2 when I was holding DS and wearing an apparently unflattering sundress). I did get back to working out and teaching spinning 2x a week at 7 weeks post-partum which helped. Granted, one of the benefits of BFing is the extra calories you burn and I haven't changed my eating habits too much (ie, I'm still eating a lot).

Everyone is different and you can't rush it. Make sure you're drinking lots of water.

Ditto this.  I've been BF for 10 months and I still have a muffin top even though I'm below my PP weight by a few pounds.  In fact, I also got the 'are you expecting' question last July and I was wearing a sundress too!  Most of my pants still don't fit right around the waist and I did buy a pair of jeans from Levi's to get me through the transition phase.

I am not working out but I am trying to eat a balanced diet and I drink tons of water.

  • Okay, 2 recs for Levis.  I will try them.  Am I going to a dept store or the Levis store in KoP?

Not trying to rush things, just want to feel okay with how I look at this point.  So that means finding some clothes that flatter my right-now body.  Even if I think it's gross.

Can I just say I am so sick of drinking tons of water?  I add lemons, limes, oranges, etc.  I am bored with it!  I carry around a 1 liter bottle of water with me at all times and keep refilling it.  I've been trying to eat fruits with high water content to offset the amount of water I should be drinking.  The thing is, I'm not even thirsty.  I am one of those people that just doesn't really get thirsty throughout the day.  Yet I am chugging.

  • After 10 months, nursing and pumping STILL makes me very thirsty. I guzzle water/seltzer all day.

  • I am going to do a test post because the internet ate the novel I typed earlier this morning.

Of course it works fine now.....

I didn't lose all of my weight right away.  It was probably 6-9 months before I was at my regular weight and now I am about 5lbs below.  There are some things that fit better than before, some that fit worse.  And my freaking boobs are shrunken versions of what they used to be :( Give yourself some time to get back to normal.  It will happen or you will have a new normal- either of these is okay.

I second Kohl's as a great spot for pants/jeans.  The sale rack is awesomely cheap and they have some work stuff that might help you get through the first few weeks back.  I have also had luck at target.  My hips aren't too bad but I have some junk in my trunk.

I liked the Banana Outlet for work clothes for in between too.  I got 1 or 2 pairs of pants and some cute tops for not a ton of cash.

How do you feel about leggings and a long cardigan/sweater?  I liked this look for the winter when I was still not happy about my body and bfing.  It was easy access and a built in cover.  Score.

J Crew has great thick, black stretch pants that have a zipper in the back.  I love those darn pants and wear them all the time.

    This is me 100%.

THough I did have the uterine contrax they're only good for reducing the size of your uterus, not losing weight.

As soon as I stopped bfing after a year, I lost 10-12 lbs very easily. My appetite decreased, my energy increased and every thing moved back to normal. In the meantime I hated that extra weight at wouldn't budge.

Oh and I liked target jeans for the pp period. Nice and stretchy.

  • I ended up getting 2 pairs of jeans from Gap.  I guess I gained most of my weight in my thighs. ew.
