BFing mommas

So E is almost 7 months and we are still exclusively BFing. I am just wondering how you got your LO to take a bottle. I am wanting her to drink some water and occasionally juice but she absolutely refuses a bottle. She has only taken a bottle a few times when MIL was here right after she was born. She didn't like it then either but MIL said she would eventually take it because she was hungry enough. But now that she has started food, I just feel like she should be getting water too. Suggestions??

  • I never did bottles with my kids.  I just gave them a cup with water when they started solids.  My kids didn't like the sippy style cup, but they all liked straw cups.  I just gave v a regular open mouth cup for a long time because he wouldn't drink from a sippy or a straw though

  • Baby girl HATED the bottle so much that she would starve herself at daycare and nurse nonstop when I picked her up. At about 6 months I started giving her breastmilk in a sippy cup and that worked. If you are pumping, maybe try a soft top sippy cup and put some in there. C knew the bottle was a nipple imposter and wanted no part of It but the cup was fine.

  • DD would only take the playtex nurser with the latex nipple.  She took them rarely but we switched her fairly early to the straw style sippy cups.  She still uses those or regular cups today.  I rarely gave her juice in a bottle and never gave water until she would use the straw sippy cup.

DS has done fine with the same bottle, I didn't even attempt anything else.

If you have good paci recommendations I will take them.  :) I am looking for a soothie style but latex since I can;t find a paci he likes.

  • Thanks ladies...I'll try a sippy cup. I just want to make sure to keep her kidneys clear since she is eating now and only nursing 5 times a day.

Bri- we only use the Nuk paci. It's the only kind she would ever use. I tried the soothe ones at first but she hated them.

  • Good luck with the sippy cup. DS nurses 6 times a day and he's the same age as your little one. He takes bottles of BM while I work two days a week, but he refuses bottles from me. I've wondered how the transition to drinking from something other than mama is going to go, but haven't yet tried to approach that issue. I'm thinking we'll start sippy cup practice before 2013.
