Potty training ?s for moms of boys

So, Sims is really good about using the toilet. Yay!  I'm excited and my dad is too, because he told a perfect stranger about Simon pooping on the potty, which is just... weird... He's awesome during the day, but we've never tried going anywhere in undies or night time.

So, we have a smaller seat that goes on the regular toilet seat.  How do I get him to pee standing up?  I'm not sure how to handle going out if I have to hold him over a regular sized seat. I can't see how I'm going to get through this process without getting soaked.  I've heard about cheerios - just throw some in the bowl and tell him to aim next time?

  • I did nothing to get him to pee standing up. Within a month after he learned to use the toilet he started doing it on his own.

  • Once he got used to using the potty, he started standing up.  Can you have your DH show him.   I think by seeing DH and Noah stand up, Brody wanted to do it, too.  I know some people have them aim at Cheerios, but I'd really do one thing at a time.
  • after a while of sitting and yes I held him, or more so let him hold my leg while sitting on a public toilet. ( I dont have issues with public restrooms....)

I said here lets stand up.  We at home have a Higher toilet, but he had no issues with standard and the ones in stores that have the split in the seat you dont even have to lift.  I just told him... "ok stand close lean a little forward. hold it ok go- and he did it. and now he does it most of the time when we are out- even when there isnt a bathroom if need be.... all by himself.

At home he is still using his seat sitting because of the toilet height but anywhere else it isnt and issue!

  • Mine only pees standing up in his training potty or the small potties at school or in a urinal (according to DH).  On a regular toilet, with or without a training ring, he just sits to go.  He doesn't seem to show a strong preference for one way or the other.

  • For the first few months he always sat. At public restrooms, he would sit but I would hold him under the armpits so he wouldn't fall in. Now he is strong enough to hold himself up on a regular potty, even if it is a little big. I don't personally see the issue with actually sitting on a public potty unless it is visually gross.

After a few months, when he was used to aiming his parts down while sitting, DH demonstrated how to pee standing up. He got it without a problem. He's short, but on most pottys he doesn't even need to stand on a stool.

  • I feel like an idiot asking this, but how do you keep the pee from shooting out when they sit on the toilet? Our potty seat has a lip for boys, but he likes sitting on the regular one like the rest of us. He hasn't actually gone yet, but if he did it would be a mess!
