DD goes to daycare twice per week. About 6 months ago, I asked the Director how much is would cost if DD would attend for half a day in addition to the two days per week she attends. The Director quoted me a price for the half day, which I thought was really low considering the full day amount, but we agreed to it, and we started picking up another 1/2 day.
A few weeks ago the Director was let go because she was mismanaging money. Today when I picked up DD from her half day at daycare, the new Director informs me that we should have been paying X dollars for a half day. This works out to about 40% higher than the initial half day quote and what we've been paying for the last six months. I told the Director that it's a lot higher than what the former director and I had initally agreed on for a half day. We're supposed to discuss it more tomorrow.
WWYD? Should I just bite the bullet and start paying the new amount without an attempt to talk her down to a lower quote? In a way I feel that I shouldn't get the short end of the stick just because the former Director quoted me the wrong price. Should I try to talk to her about meeting me somewhere in the middle on the cost?
Many of you moms know, DC is not cheap, and this new quote is going to put a nice dent in our bank accounts. ![]()
Re: Here's a WWYD for you
I would definitely try to negotiate with the director.
But to be fair, if you don't have any sort of contract, the new director (or even the old director) has the right to raise prices as they wish.
Any chance you have it in writing? If not, I would go through your d/c paperwork and see what it says about payment.
If anything, I would try to get the price you pay to be good until Jan. 1, which is when d/c prices typically rise. While it's not your fault what the former director was doing, it's also not the business' fault either... kwim?
My three sons!
ditto this. Our dc prices rise in the fall for new "school year". So I would not expect an increase until then. Even if it was a mistake on last direct it's park it is what you agreed on
