sprucing up the bedroom decor

Hi everyone!

I ususally post on the bump, but have been getting into the nest lately!

Was wondering if anyone could reccomend some inexpensive ways to spruce up the decorating in our bedroom.  RIght now, we have white walls (which we can't paint because we rent) with a few pictures...but it just seems kind of cold and stark.  Anyone have any go-to ideas to make a room warmer, more welcoming and just...prettier?'

Thanks!

Re: sprucing up the bedroom decor

  • We cannot paint either and have made do with our white walls and put color everywhere else.  Floor to ceiling curtains (we have velvet ones in our bedroom which ups the comfort factor) colorful duvet, large artwork, a colorful rug.  Even a large potted plant adds life and color.  I also have a chair in a fabulous color and pattern.

A great book I can suggest for inspiration is Jonathan Adler on Happy Chic Colors.  He has a lot of rooms with white walls and they all look wonderful.

  • I personally think that white walls can be lovely!  I agree about the curtains.  They can really be such great accessories to give a room some depth.  I also think two matching lamps on either side of the bed would be great (they don't have to be expensive).  Also to give the lamps height, you could stack pretty books under the lamp to give it some variation.  Let us know what you do!!
  • If you can't paint, but still want to decorate your walls, consider wall decals, Easy to put up, easy to take down, don't leave a lasting mark, and you're free to decorate however you want with them. There are a lot of great options out there for bedrooms; start here and explore around. I'm sure you'll find something you love!
  • Thanks everyone!  ALL great ideas!  I am going to look into inexpensive curtains.  There are none on our windows now, and not even rods or anything to hang any (just bare windows), so I will have to start from scratch-- but I bet that will help a lot.  I will let you know how it goes!

  • White walls can probably be one of the easiest rooms to decorate. By putting a bigger carpet mat on the floor, wall pictures, wall mirrors, flower pots of almost any color will enhance nicely your room.
