LeapPad for a 2 yr old?

Hi ladies!

Lurker here (my username was crazystace when I was active on TK though).

Anyway, I was curious as to whether a LeapPad would be age appropriate for my son who will be 2 in December. It would be a Christmas gift. He loves playing with my iPad and H's Galaxy tab. He is able to unlock it, open up his games, switch between games, scroll through pictures, etc.

Do the LeapPads have a photo section where I could put pictures for him to look at? That's one of his favorite things to do on the iPad. Also, are there age appropriate games? He looooves the flash card apps on the iPad. Anything for someone that young on the LeapPad?

Thanks ladies!

Re: LeapPad for a 2 yr old?

  • We gave my son a LeapPad for his 5th bday. I'll be honest that I don't know if we are using it to its fullest capacity, since I haven't bought apps for it, but he seems to enjoy the games he does play.

I'm not sure a 2-yr old would be able to really use a LeapPad - I say this becaus eI know my son uses the pen for his games (I'm not even sure if it is also a touch screen). Your son seems very good with the touch part, but holding a pen is more difficult.

I know TRU, and possibly Target, have samples out that you can play around with. Maybe bring your son to try it out and see what he thinks? Good luck!

    My three sons!

  • Thanks! I assumed it was touch screen. Having to use a pen definitely wouldn't work. I need to look into this a bit more, obviously. :)

  • It is a touch screen, and you can use your finger for it - but personally, I think a 2 year old is way too young for it (especially a just turned 2 year old.)

We bought it for my daughter last Christmas when she was 3 1/2, and there were still a good many things she couldn't do on it (certain games, etc.) Of course, she's also not playing with iPods, iPads, etc.
