Strollers

It may be a bit early in my pregnancy to go buy one, but H is getting his bonus at the end of the month so I figured we may as well take the plunge. Right now, I want an Uppababy Vista. Anyone have one? Anyone not like it and go with another brand?

Re: Strollers

  • Do not get a travel system.  That's all I've got for ya.  I have one and I wish I had gotten a City Mini.
  • ...der just saw kernal posted a stroller question not that long ago. sorry dudes.

But thanks Jess# for your feedback!

  • Just keep in mind, like cars, the models also change yearly. Not significantly, but colors, etc.

  • I love, love, love, love my UppaBaby Vista.  Love.

The bassinet was awesome when DS was small, we used it all the time and when we traveled we didn't take the pack and play for the first few months.  We switched to the seat at around 3-4 months (DS was a preemie so we were a little late with some of the motor skill milestones.  He can face you or face out in the seat.

I walk him in it for at least 2mi/day and I have minimal complaints.  It is a pain to wash in our small washer, you need to buy some of the smaller accessories separately (cup holder, etc), and that is about all for annoyances.

  • Ering - what accessories do you recommend the most? I would think the cup holder would be a key one.

Good point - but I would most likely be able to return it if a new one came out that I liked more before the baby comes, right?

We ordered a cup holder and a bassinet stand from Amazon.  Since DS is in the stroller every day to come home from daycare we have the JJ Cole bundle me too.  That's about all.  We are pretty basic since our apt is so tiny.

Oh- and the customer service is awesome.  The mattress for our bassinet smelled funky the first go round so we called and they shipped one out for free and it got to us in 3ish days.  Awesome.  I have heard great customer service reviews from other parents too. Not that the product is defective but if you break a wheel, tear the seat fabric in your too small city washer, or something like that.

Just beware of the evil BRU return policy (they are *slightly* more flexible with things on your registry). BBB is more flexible.

  • I had a Chicco travel system and I ended up hating it.  Upgraded to a Citi Mini and I love it.

  • We love our bugaboo but sometimes I would have liked the UppaBaby (which is very similar to the bugaboo I think) b/c it has a larger basket underneath.

We used the bassinet a lot in the beginning too (DS napped and even slept overnight in it, in our bedroom). I think the Uppa also comes with a bassinet.

Do you have the Baby Bargains book? It's awesome for stuff like this. Gives you pros, cons, price points, etc.

i'd prob wait to buy one due to what one of the other posters mentioned about new models. When they do release new models sometimes they'll discount the model that's being retired. That's how I got a better deal on my City Mini (that I now don't like).

  • I fell in love with the Uppababy Vista, but of course that was after I had already gotten my stroller!

I bought my P&T from the website pishposhbaby.com, they have good deals and I am pretty sure they sell the UBV

  • Are you planning on having a baby shower and a registry? Can you take some time to do some research and put the stroller on your registry? Even though it's expensive, you'd be surprised at how fast it will be purchased. If one person doesn't buy it alone, many times a few people will go in on it together. I'd save it for your registry, IMO.

Confession: I'm way too embarrassed to put a $700 stroller on a registry. I think it's too much money for other people to spend.

Can you add gift certificates to your registry? I can't remember if this is possible... I think sometimes people want to buy gc's but they feel like they have to get something from the registry. If you can get gc's maybe that can reduce your out of pocket.

Also, BBB is a great place to go but I found that more people go to BRU when buying off the registry. I don't think there are as many BBB's esp in PA.

Right now I think I'll just register at BRU because there are no BBB close by in PA- I think the closest is Allentown? I dont think BRU carries UPPAbaby, but the lovely little independent baby store across the street from my work does. I stare out the window at my stroller every day - ha!

i really recommend making the trip to BBB to try out strollers and talk with the sales. i found the ubv just too big for my stride. now i know a lot of short people who love it but i also wanted something i really liked to walk with since id be doing it often.
