Scuba Diving...where to go?

Any nestie divers?

Please share your favorite dive locations and where you stayed. I'll post my experiences as well, but want to hear yours first! Thanks!

Edit: We are PADI advanced certified with 75 or so dives...not first timers, lol. Open to any location worldwide at any budget.

Re: Scuba Diving...where to go?

  • Not a diver, but have you been to Belize, Grand Caymans, Turks and Caicos?
  • This place is great and you can find lodging almost anywhere nearby.  I must admit, night dives scare the dickens out of me so I can't comment on that, but this center is well known in the area and has been there for longer than the 20+ years that we've been going there. The diving and snorkling in the  are are fantastic!

  • Palau

Great Barrier Reef (we stayed at Heron and Lizard Island and LOVED Lizard)

Rangiroa (French Polynesia- stay at Hotel Kia Ora and also dive/visit other islands, like Taha'a and Bora Bora. Have been to a million places there so I can add my two cents in if needed)

Nigaloo Reef off of Perth, Australia

    as pp mentioned, Belize

  • My friends have been dive masters all over the world and they rave about Seychelles.

Mozambique was fun because we got to snorkel with the whale sharks on the way to the dive sites. If they spotted a whale shark, they'd just stop and everyone would grab masks and jump in!  I also heard wonderful things about the manta feeding station there, but I didn't have an advanced cert. and it's a bit deep.

  • Ok here goes....Location- Dive Op- Hotel (if I would recommend it). Let me know if you want more info about any of these locations/dive ops/hotels.

Great Barrier Reef- Live aboard with ProDive

Cozumel- Santa Rosa Wall- no idea of the company

Belize: Caye Caulker-Belize Diving Services- Maxhapan Cabanas, Ambergris Caye-Amigos Del Mar- Mayan Princess, and Hamanisi out of Hopkins.

Grand Cayman- Wall to Wall Diving- Comfort Inn

    Roatan- Coconut Tree Divers

Would not recommend diving in Cancun or Oahu.

  • Jells- where did you guys dive/stay in Belize?

I am looking into staying out on an atoll.

I haven't stayed here, but this place is on my list in Belize (not for diving though)

  • We stayed on Ambergris Caye at Victoria House. We're thinking of going to Cayo Espanto this next year, but it's between that and heading back to Lizard Island and I can't imagine not going to Lizard Island!

  • defintiely belize

  • I'm not super-experienced, but the best diving I've had was on a 5-day live-aboard trip in Thailand+Burma.  I'll choose a live-aboard over staying on land because it's just so much easier, and you get a lot more dives (4 dives a day easily).
  • I would recommend SE Asia. I lived in the Philippines for two years and did some amazing dives for really good prices. I went ahead and got PADI Rescue Diver certification and a Wreck specialty, since it was so cheap there. My friend, who is a dive master, had a fantastic experience on a live-aboard in Thailand. Malaysia and Indonesia also have some great dive sites.
