Ok ladies time to bother you with questions!
I am starting to become familiar with all of the things our little one will need when he arrives. I always liked the look of the City Mini and the City Select so will probably end up with one of them. My question is, how good are they with the infant seat adapter? I saw someone with the infant seat on the City Mini last week for the first time, and it looked unstable to me. Are we better off with the Snap N' Go until little one outgrows it? I have no idea what infant seat we are going to register for yet, altough I've been looking at some different Britax models.
My mom also keeps telling me she swore by an umbrella stroller for us when we were little. I am assuming this is something similar to the Maclaren Triumph. Do I even need one of these? When would little one even need something like this in terms of age?
I am so overwhelmed by all of this stuff! TIA!
Re: Stroller Question
I have a City Select and love it -- IMO it is totally they way to go if you are planning on multiple kiddos.
I do not LOVE the infant sweater adapter, but it is fine. I use mine with a Graco Snugride, and I have read that combo gets the "worst" reviews -- some other seats might be different. But it's not like you jog with it or anything, so it is fine. I definitely wouldn't register for a snap n go with the City Select -- with the infant seat it is pretty much a snap n go with better wheels and basket.
We also have a Maclaren -- it isn't me necessary, but it serves it purpose. my mom uses it when she has DS1 because it is much lighter. I use it for stuff like doctors appointments too, and sometimes we just need something smaller. we could get by without it, though.
I am still struggling with the stroller question 3 months in.
We now have a City Mini, a Bugaboo Cameleon with infant car seat adaptor and now a Bob Revolution.
The Bugaboo Cameleon is amazing - I completely love it.... except I find it a pain to open. This was enough of a deal breaker for me that I almost sold it a couple of weeks ago, but then discovered that our (very small) dog can ride on the front by the baby's feet which makes my life much easier when we're in the city. It comes with the bassinet which we never used, but we have friends who use theirs all the time. We used the car seat adaptor in the beginning, but honestly our girl isn't a napper anyway and gets bored in her car seat, so it's easier for us to put her in a more upright stroller where she can see what is going on.
The City Mini is amazing - light weight and folds and unfolds with one hand which is so amazingly useful. I just wish it had more space in the basket.
The Bob is for jogging but a lot of people use it as their every day stroller. I think it's awesome, but a bit heavy for every day.
If I could only have one of them I would probably choose the City Mini as the lightweight and easy foldability trump everything else.
Good luck!
I tried out both the City Mini GT and Select and ended up getting the Mini GT. I loved the idea of the Select, but it felt too bulky as a single stroller. I wanted something that was more of an all-terrain stroller since we spend lots of time outside and down the shore. The GT is a bit bigger than the Mini (mainly because of the tires), but it is such a smooth ride for long walks. It's safe from birth as long as it's reclined fully and you use some kind of head support - I bought a snuzzler similar to the one that came with our carseat and it works great.
My friend uses the carseat adapter with her Mini GT (same adapter as Mini) ans she claims it is secure. I don't know if we did something wrong, but it did not feel secure when we tried it out in the store. The seat just kinda sits on the bar and then you strap it in.
We'll probably get a cheaper umbrella stroller at some point when we need more space in the trunk or for travel.
We also got a snap and go for the infant seat and I love having that thing. I use it for almost every errand - so easy for in and out of the car when LO is sleeping.
We have the City Select and a Britax infant car seat. Beware, Britax carseats are HEAVY. We were not comfortable with the car seat adapter using the Britax in the CS so we opted for the Snap n Go (note here we didn't actually register for the SNG - we bought it after, when we realized the adapter thing wasn't going to work).
I have the UppaBaby Vista and love it so I can't help with the City Mini vs. City Select question. Most of the kids in DS's day care have the Select. They use it every day walking to and from daycare.
As for an umbrella stroller- we didn't get one until DS was 9ish months. We were going on vacation to LA and needed to have something for the airport that was easy and light because I was traveling by myself. We went with the Chicco Capri and it was (and is) perfect for traveling. It is cheaper than most, comes with a travel bag, is easy to open and shut and super light. I wouldn't say it is a MUST have but we use it now that he is older for going to the beach and traveling.
we have a bugaboo so I can't answer your question about the city mini. I have friends that have it and love it though.
We also love our maclaren triumph. We use it all the time (more than the bugaboo) --- mainly b/c I walk DS to/from daycare in it. Also great for traveling and quick trips when you don't want to take a full-size stroller. We started using the triumph when DS was about 8 (?) months?
Thanks ladies! So if I am correct, if we were to buy, say, the City Select, we would still need to put him in the infant seat in either a Snap N Go or the adapter until he is a certain weight or is sitting up?
It seems the consensus here is the adapter for the City Mini is probably not the way to go. I just didn't like the set up when I saw it, but I figured I would get some opinions from those who may have used it/tried it.
Ironically, when we were sitting outside of PA Hospital last week waiting for our car, someone walked past with a Snap N Go and I pointed it out to DH and my mom who was with us. They both commented why would you waste money on that thing, it looks like a shopping cart! They are both clueless as to the whole infant seat adapter thing.
With regard to weight, any infant seat is going to be heavy to me! In addition, I have some degenerative problems with my right shoulder that are under control right now thankfully, so I know lifting and carrying the infant seat on my own with little one in it is going to be practically impossible anyways, which is why I was thinking of the Snap N Go even though I probably won't be using it that much.
Thanks also for the insight on the umbrella strollers. If we need one down the road,I think we will just buy one.
I'm totally an upper body weakling and my god I'd carry that infant carrier if it just meant more sleep for my kid. Also you don't carry it around I mean it goes from house to car or stroller so it's not like you are personally holding it all the time.
I can't remember if you live in the city or not? I think a nicer stroller city select etc are a need for city living or if you mainly walk as a form of transport. If you are going to mainly use the stroller to walk stores/mall/park a city mini is fine. I don't see thpoorest of a big bulky stroller just taking up room in a car trunk.
We have a PT stroller too the thing folds that the child can remain sitting when folded. Ironically that's what's in our car right now since its smaller.
Im stressed over wether we really need a double stroller and really need to go check out stores. My main worry m is already 30 pounds most jump seats got to 35 and so seems like a waste.
Letranger- we live in beautiful South Philly lol. I love to walk and so does my mom (also in the city), who will be watching LO 3 days a week. So it is safe to say we will be using the stroller outside on city streets more than, say, the shopping mall. So, I appreciate your thoughts on the Select vs. Mini.
My brother and I are around the same age difference as your children will be. I remember my mom having a large stroller for my infant brother with a seat for me that according to her, I never sat in (it was in our basement forever and I remember asking about it once). I liked to walk along side and hold onto the stroller.
Yeah you'll need the select or the gt. no mini.
Lol this is my worry. I think I want a Phil and Teds with a buggy board and the option of a jump seat. The thing is right now milo still asks for up all the damn time and doesn't understand to stay still when I need him too or longer walks (1 mile or more) so the idea of confining him in a stroller is nice. However things change in 6 months.
i have a snap n go and the city mini. I don't use the sng anymore but I loved it. It's great for suburban living but not so good f your plans include using it to walk around the city. The wheels just aren't meant for it.
i regret not getting the city select. The mini is nice but way less versatile. And the basket underneath is nearly impossible to fit a diaper bag in.
hth!
I am, of course, way late here and not sure you'll even see this, but anyway- I just had #2 a month ago, and my older child turned 2 in August. We purchased the City Select after getting recommendations and going to BBB 3 times to push strollers around and practice folding them up. I, too, lack real good body strength and so wanted the stroller that would be easiest to fold and unfold. We bought the CIty Select, the second seat (you pay extra for that), and the Chicco infant seat converter. I find the whole structure to be secure, and very easy to take apart and put together. You do need to take off all seats to put it in and out of the car and fold the base, but I can do that in less than 2 minutes.
Someone also mentioned wanting to see about the need for a double stroller with their child currently at 30 lbs.- we had that concern too, and the City Select seats hold up to 45 lbs. My daughter can certainly walk and hold hands, etc., but I wanted something for when we are out somewhere crowded or when it's just me and the kids and I can't push a stroller and chase her around too.
Jamie, you can leave the main seat on when you fold the stroller up. You don't have to detach it. I have to detach it to fit it in my little trunk but we close it up all the time with the seat attached.
