If you don't mind my asking...  How did you get the dealer to negotiate on your car?  I'm no good at that stuff, so I was just wondering what you guys did to get what you wanted.  It might help me in the future.

Re: *amyjoy*

  • To be honest, I'm really not sure and our sales guy said that the sales manager there rarely budges on the price at all, but I will give you the rundown.

They only had 1 2012 in stock with the bucket seat that we wanted--the rest were 2011's.  I told the sales guy that it really had more features than we needed.  I had also really done my research and had a basic ball park figure for how much each option added to the cost. I told the sales guy that I knew I could get a brand new one with all the features I needed for just a bit more than they were asking for this one and a new one would have a full warrenty, where this one was already  2/3rds of the way through the miles for the bumper to bumper warranty.

We asked for a minute to talk then went into the sales guy and said that unless you give it to us for X amount we're just going to the other dealership and have them get a new one in for us.

He came back and said he was shocked, but the sales manager agreed.

I really think it was just our lucky day and perhaps that particular car had been there longer than they like to see them and not necessarily my negotiating techniques, because their pricing was spot on with KBB, NADA and Edmunds.
