If you have your TV mounted on the wall....

....what do you do with the accessories? (cable box, DVD player, etc...)

we just mounted our tv in the gameroom, and we have a table similar to this that the TV used to sit on and now it's just holding the cable box, dvd player and Wii console:

I hate to get rid of it because we have a side table that matches it and we'd still have to buy something else to put the stuff in, but this just seems so big.  What do you keep your stuff in?  And if you use a larger piece like mine, what do you put on the top?  would it look weird to decorate it, with picture frames or something?  It's centered under the TV.

Re: If you have your TV mounted on the wall....

  • We had something very similar when we had a wall mounted TV at our old house.  I did decorate the top.  I tried to add in some items with a little bit of height to them to balance the space out.  Pillar candles on pedestals mixed with picture frames.  Branches in a vase, etc.

Yeah, the height issue is throwing me off, too.  I put 2 frames and a candle on there just to see what it would look like, and there was a lot of white space between the table & the TV above, so it looked off.  Branches in a vase are a good idea, and something that's nice to swap out seasonally.

I tried one longer kind of oval shaped bowl with some orbs in it just centered on the table, but that looked completely lost.

  • We have a console table, that has shelves/drawers that is somewhat similar to what you have, but it is taller - I do have picture frames, etc. on the top.
  • I like the idea of the vase with branches - especially those lighted ones (like the willow budded branches).

I'm not much help - we have a big monstrosity piece that the tv is attached to and, with a press of a button, we can "hide" it in the console. It's DH's pride and joy.

  • I agree with the others, and if you are going to put decorative items on the console table (and don't want to replace it with a higher one) you will need to do so with a few things that help bridge the gap between the two objects.
  • Ours is above the fireplace.  We have our cords run behind the wall so our unit is a tall media cabinet about 10 ft away.  We have DVDs, CDs in baskets, my camera supplies are in baskets, tv box, DVD player and stereo controller are on shelves

  • Ours is mounted and we have a shelf that we attached underneath it for DVDs.  Our dvd and cable box are on top of the fridge and we have the cords wired into the wall.

  • We have an old coffee table that I refinished under ours. It has drawers where I keep the remotes, and the cable box is on top. I have the sound bar mounted on a picture ledge on the wall underneath. I like a slightly large piece of furniture under it -- I feel like anything smaller would look unbalanced.
  • I know this isn't what you're asking necessarily but we have this type of situation and plan on doing the "After" if we ever get a minute!
