ETA: final link fixed
We went to the Parade of Homes a couple of weeks ago, and I was kind of surprised by how big a trend it seems to have different colors of trim throughout the house or even a room. Since we rented up until this summer, I haven't paid much attention to decor trends until recently. I actually was pleased to see this, because it frees me up in our current home. We have all white trim on the wing with the bedrooms and two bathrooms, then the living area of the house and playroom is stained wood, and then on the other wing of the house with the kitchen, laundry, and half bath will be white when we get to it (currently butt ugly faux finish). I've agonized over the living area, but I don't think I'm going to do anything to the stained built in cabinetry or trim in there for awhile.
Here's some examples of what I'm talking about:

Re: Another D&R post: trim colors
I noticed this too when we started to build. At first I was hesitant, but we followed the new trend of having different trims throughout the house. A majority of the house is dark wood trim. The powder bath and nursery are white trim. And our kitchen cabinets are kind of a creamy white with a brown glaze that they applied and then rubbed off.
My main concern when we started talking about doing this was the doors. I don't like the trim around the door to be different than the door. So our doors in the powder bath and nursery are painted white on the inside to match the room and brown on the outside to match the rest of the house. I think it looks great!
I'm not a big fan of the different color cabinets. The first link I think there is just too much going on. The second link it's too bad, but I prefer just one color cabinets. I think it look cleaner and not as distracting.
I am also weird about the trim around the door. I would have done the same thing! I bet it does look nice
We went in a house that was very similar to the first link. I had the same reaction: too much going on! I prefer one color cabinets. I don't mind the trend of a different color cabinet for an island, but it's not my style, and I think it's a fleeting trend.
