sleep training advice

For those who did Ferber or Sleepeasy: DD is doing pretty well with not waking up every hour or two like she used to and getting herself back to sleep when she does wake in the MOTN.

The problem is when I first put her down at night. One of two things happens. Either she yells it's really more of an angry yelling than actually crying for 30 minutes before falling asleep, or she falls asleep right away but then wakes up 30 minutes later and then yells or cries for 30 minutes after that.

We're almost at the two week mark. Did anyone else's LO still fuss/cry this much after two weeks and did it get better?

Second question. Doing check in with her actually seems to upset her more. Should I wait and only check in if it's longer than her usual 30 minutes or she seems more upset than usual? Or should I keep checking in at 15 minutes to try to reassure her?

Re: sleep training advice

  • We weren't at the same age as has her when we did it, so im sure its different. Plus every baby is different.  But I will say that the going in to check on him did always make him more upset and set us back every time I did it, making the whole process take FOREVER. I would just watch him on the monitor and watch his behavior/actions and depending on how upset he was or how close he was to giving up and lying down, I wouldnt go in. It seemed when I stopped going in, things got better.

GL and hang in there. It sounds like she's doing good so far.

  • Sounds like baby ELF is doing pretty well. Does she take a paci to go to sleep? Did you try white noise at bed time?

Like Kendra316, I watch A on the monitor, and some nights she will chit chat and whine, but I let her go and eventually she goes to sleep. I don't go in unless it's necessary because I know it will make her more upset. I'd say if she's really fussing/ crying after 15min I'd go in rub her tummy/back and shush until she calms, and walk back out. GL lady, it sounds like things are going well.
