Loss :(

This morning I found out via email that my (not blood related) grandpa died over the weekend. He was actually more of a grandpa to me than my real one. He was family. He did the best impression of Donald duck; he was so caring and so very funny. I always felt good being around him. It's sad because I hadn't talked to him in a while, and wanted so badly to call him as soon as possible and tell him what all I've been going through, and tell him I love him. It's been a few years since I lost my uncle, but this has made me think about him as well. As I've gotten older I realize how much my uncle and I had in common. I wish I had let them know how much they meant to me, and how I looked up to them.

Is anyone else missing someone?

    hugging you!

    Aw, you are so sweet.

  • Yes, and the way that I handle it is by thinking of them and talking about them, or just having internal conversations with them.

When I see a butterfly I think of my good friend from high school. Butterflies were her favorite. When I drive past where she's buried I send up a greeting and good thoughts. I also keep her picture where I see it frequently. She's standing next to my brother in the picture and it makes me smile.

I dated someone in high school whose grandfather had passed away. We would leave a dime when ever we visited his grave because the grandfather collected dimes while he was living.

On my dad's side of the family when someone passes, after the funeral we have what we call a "Celebration of Life". We each release a helium balloon so that we're with them. Then we eat and reminisce about the person.

I believe that as long as you hold the person in your heart and share stories about them, as long as someone remembers them they are never truly forgotten.

     Hope this helps. Hugs.

  • Sending lots of love your way!! I found out over the weekend that my gma on my mom's side was diagnosed with lung cancer last week. It just makes me think of everyone I've lost recently. My brother died last year due to Chron's (in November, he was a year older than me and we were really close), and we lost DH's second mom in Feb due to breast cancer. And on top of those, my aunt (also on mom's side) also has breast cancer, and their other sister is battling overian cancer. It just makes me anxious for the future knowing that I am so much more likely than the average woman to get these types of cancer because of family history.

Again, sending hugs and positive vibes your way.

  • There's quite a few people I miss.

A good friend who was my bm died 5 years back; she had a stroke and didn't make it. No apparent health problems until then.:(

I miss my aunt, my ma, my dad, my uncle F and my good friend who died of cancer.

    Sorry for your troubles.
  • Thank you all, and I'm sorry for your losses as well. Its good to talk about it.
  • I am sorry for your loss. Maybe you could create a few pages in a journal or on your computer of thoughts you have about this Grandpa and your Uncle. Memories. Quotes that remind you of them. Or, words that you find comfort in during this time of pain.
  • Sorry for loss. :(
