  • We really enjoyed the meal we had at Capt's Waterfront Grill & Pub in Salem.  In Salem, we really enjoyed just wandering around and exploring the town.  The Salem Waterfront Hotel looked really nice and we said we would probably stay there on a future visit (we just did a day trip in from Boston, so we didn't stay anywhere there).

  • 1824 Inn in Waitsfield, Vermont is wonderful. We stayed there in April when we were up in the Warren area visiting my dad's building school alma mater and the innkeeper is a great person and fabulous cook!
  • salems less than an hour from boston. if it were me i'd stay in boston and just spend part of a day there.  if you're looking for other day trips gloucester's a good one.

Friday, December 28 2012. The day I had emergency appendix surgery in Mexico and quit smoking. Proof that everything has a good side!! DH and I are happily child-free!! No due date or toddler tickers here!! my read shelf:

  • For Providence, we like to stay in downtown right across from the Providence Place Mall and the Amtrak Station.  It is the Renaissance Inn by Marriott.  It is a very nicely renovated older building right across from the Capitol Building.  In Boston, we like the Westin Hotels or the Sheraton at Copley Plaza.
  • I'm from Mystic and it's a great town!  I appreciate it much more now that I don't live there, and DH and I have fun being "tourists" when we go visit my family.  I've never really stayed in the hotels or B&Bs there (because I lived there) but a few years ago my mom paid for DH and I to have a night away from our kids so she got us a package (dinner + suite) at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods.  It's not in Mystic but it's super close.  It was awesome!

What time of year are you going?  Depending on that, Mystic has lots of activities geared around the seasons.  A lot of times when we plan our family visits we plan around when something big is going on up there.  There are lots of great restaurants.  If you're specifically looking for seafood I recommend Abbotts, but they are only open during the summer, so it depends on when you are going.  Other places I like are Mystic Pizza, Steak Loft, S&P Oyster, and Azu.  Downtown Mystic and Olde Mistick Village are fun places to walk around and shop.

  • I stayed at Moose Meadow Lodge near Waterbury and LOVED it.  It's a B&B and the couple that own it are really nice.

  • Salem is such a beautiful town and you will absolutely love it there. There are also plenty of other places to visit in Massachusetts if you are interested, such as Cape Cod, Nantucket, and Martha's Vineyard.
