What brand of make up do you use?

I have been using Mac forever but I am kind of over it. I don't wear a lot of make up for every day, just basic foundation, powder, blush, and some shadow but I am fine with Mac shadows, and for mascara I swear by cheapo maybeline.

I really want to try out something new for every day wear but don't want to dish out $$$ on full size products until I know I love it.  I have normal skin, not too dry or oily, and a pretty even tone besides the dark circles.

Any recommendations? Anything you love or hate that I should stay away from?

Re: What brand of make up do you use?

  • I wear minimal, basic make up every day.  I've used Cover Girl for years.  I use the green ones for sensitive skin for pressed powder and foundation.  I also use plain old Mabeline for mascara.  And I love, love, love Physician's Formula bronzer.
  • I nevEr wear makeup daily, but I have a set of bare minerals when I need spice in my life.
  • Right now, I've been using Smashbox.  I don't know if I'm thrilled enough with it to buy it again.  I  only use foundation (sometimes), pressed powder, blush, eyeshadow or liner and concealer.

In the past, I've used Benefit and Clinique.

I too have the Italian curse of the dark circles and uneven skin tone.  Any good suggestions for a good concealer and foundation?

  • I use bare minerals every day.  I think you can get a trial set at sephora- you used to be able to.

I like that I can layer as much or as little as I want depending on time and the day.  Yesterday- whole enchilada.  Concealer, blush, foundation, eye makeup and the finishing powder.  Today- no time.  Concealer, finishing powder, mascara.

Plus, the 90 y/o in me loves that I can order it from QVC when I need it and not go to the store.

  • I've slowly switched all of my makeup to Bobbi Brown (w/ a few NARS, benefit goodies thrown in). I really like it and it works well for my skin.

I used to wear bare minerals, and have no complaints. They're also good about helping you find the right colors, etc. and you can get good deals on starter kits.

  • I just went on sephora.com and never even knew they sold start kits, this is perfect, thank you!

  • I love the whole Armani line and they have this amazing new foundation (Maestro) and they were giving you samples at NM if you ask. It is pricy but well worth it. I also use Laura Mercier mineral powder, but keep going back to Armani. I also like certain products by other lines- Mary Kay Lash Love mascara is my holy grail. A friend sells it and got me hooked. I like the Armani eyeliners aling with Bobbi Brown gel liners. I also like many things from Trish McEvoy- especially her eye makeup primers.

  • I wear under-eye concealer, eye shadow, blush and mascara. Everything but the under-eye concealer is Smashbox. Their eyeshadow palettes are great. I am using cheapo cover girl concealer right now, but it works OK.
  • NARS tinted moistutizer, blush, bronzer and lip gloss; Dior eyeliner, and concealer; MAC eyeshadows; Maybeline mascara.

Every so often, I try to start incorporating cheaper drugstore makeup but i'm never happy. The only exception was the mascara.

If I had to pick only one item to keep spending cash on, it would probably be Dior concealer...it covers everything without having to cake it on, plus it lasts forever since I use such a small amount.

Explain this as a primer to me. This is the second time I've seen monistat used for this purpose this week. I've used the product before (for chafing on my arms/legs), I don't know how I feel about putting it on my face.

  • Kel, I'm a makeup whOre so come over and you can play. :-)

The only thing about bare minerals is that if you are used to a foundation, you might not like going to a powder. I didn't get enough coverage with BM so I wasted $60 for the kit.

Primer, Foundation, concealer, setting powder - I use Makeup Forever HD. I also think think Smashbox & Lanc?me make good foundations but I am a foundation nut. The night I saw you recently, I was giving a sample of Kat VonD a try, but it's extremely heavy. But my point is, find someone with great makeup at Sephora (not all of their ppl are good) and ask questions... They'll give samples so you don't waste money on full sizes. Although sephora has a good return policy, I think?

Eye shadow - urban decay naked 1& 2, Laura mercier book of nudes

Eye liner - Bobbi brown, urban decay

    Eye primer - urban decay

Bronzer Blush & lipgloss - Nars

    Brow powder - benefit

Mascara is drugstore! Loreal voluminous, my fave forever ever

    Setting spray - Victoria secret

  • I use a bunch of different stuff.  I do feel like recs for foundation are useless, since everyone's skin is different.  Certain brands that get raves like MAC or Laura Mercier just look horrible on me - the colors don't match up well with my skin

I definitely suggest going to Sephora and letting them try a bunch on you.

For foundation, I started using tinted moisturizer.  If you find a good one it will give nice coverage without being too heavy.  I like Benefit and Two-Faced

For eyeliner and mascara I like Hourglass - calligraphy pens for liner and Film Noir mascara

For shadows, I love my UD Naked Palette.  I also have a Two-Faced smoky eye kit and a Bobbi Brown palette with a red lipstick.

    Blush I like Nars Orgasm

Lipstick I like Laura Mercier and lipgloss I use philosophy

For skincare, I love love love philosophy.  It has made a huge difference in my skin.  I use the purity wash and hope in a jar moisturizer.  Occasionally I will do their oxygen mask

    Have fun shopping!

  • I use Bare Minerals as an everyday, but if I need a little more, I use the new Lancome foundation - love it.  I've tried the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer, and it made me break out like crazy.

Tarte Amazonian Clay blush in adore - this stuff stays on forever

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles - jury is still out.  Fortunately I don't have dark circles, but was looking to brighten that area up.

Nars Laguna for a bronzer, but I'm not sure I'll repurchase.  Most people love it though

    MaryKay Mascara, concealer, and highlighter

Urban Decay eyeshadow primer is a must have.

I don't have a favorite brand of shadow yet, but have been wanting to get UD Naked 2.

  • i have been using the bobbi brown foundation stick, pressed powder, blush and love it. bare minerals seems to settle into my skins imperfections and make them look worse so be sure to try befrore you buy.

naked pallet is amazing, tarte mascara, smashbox shimmer powder.

keep an eye out on qvc...excellent deals (better than sephora), excellent return policies

Someone had pinned this a month or two ago, so I ordered it from Amazon.  Have been using it ever since, and I'm very happy with it.  I have a very shiny t-zone, and this helps keep that area matte.  Also, my makeup goes on smoother and seems to last longer.

Funny side story...I felt silly buying it at CVS (I still feel silly buying tampons, haha), so I ordered it online from Amazon.  Like everything I order online, I had it shipped to work.  Would you believe that for the first time ever, my boss opened it thinking it was phone stuff he had ordered from Amazon?? I bashfully tried to explain that it was actually for my face - very awkward.

That story is mortifying. I would have been so red in the face!

My chin and nose get especially oily but I just can't imagine how that stuff would help based on its consistency. Buy hey, I'll give it a shot and see what it does. I just worry about what goes on my face since I tend to break out easily.
