Selling a house with kids

Good morning,

DH and I have 2 kids, and we will be putting our house on the market in the next 2 weeks. My question is, how do you keep a house clean, and in showing condition with 2 kids, while both of you work? Do you have a cleaning schedule you go by, hire a cleaning person, etc? I have already accomplished alot of the decluttering, getting rid of toys, clothes, stuff that hasn't been used in years. This is the first house we are selling, and it is really starting to stress me out!

Re: Selling a house with kids

  • Severly limit the toys while the house is on the market.

Pick up every evening and a cleaning schedule during the week.  Focus on kitchen and bathroom - if you keep other rooms picked up they look good.

  • I've also heard of laying out a big blanket for the kids to have a play area.  The toys stay on the blanket.  When you get a call for a showing, you just fold the blanket up (toys inside) and throw it in a basket to carry out or store.

I don't have kids, but that sounds like a great idea.

  • We limited our use to one bathroom so we only had to clean one for showings.
  • We are currently going through this right now.. it has been 4 months of hell. What helps with the kids toys is that we have a rubbermaid container that is filled with toys. So when we clean up all the toys go in and the container goes in a closet.
