Wedding Dress

Hey have you guys had your wedding dress cleaned yet and stored? I haven't gotten it cleaned yet and I'm not sure where I'm going to store it. I saw a picture on pinterest of a wedding dress framed and hung on the wall. I thought that was so cool but I'm wondering how I would go about doing that.

Re: Wedding Dress

  • nope. Mine is still hanging in the bag inside my closet. I also saw a picture on pinterest where the wedding dress was on display in either a master bathroom or dressing room... wish I had the space for that!
  • I know, I wish I had space for it, too! I thought that was really cool.

  • I haven't done anything with mine yet....I keep telling myself I need to call around and get prices to get it cleaned and preserved but just haven't done it.  If I had the space I would totally frame it and display it in a closet or dressing area, but we don't have the space and I don't think DH would want to lose he closet to my dress...

  • My mom read that you can clean it yourself in your bathtub...I think the article just said use oxyclean and let it soak. Then let it air dry

  • While I was on my honeymoon, my parents took my dress and had it cleaned and preserved for me.  The thing that sucks is that it is now sealed in an air tight box, and if I open it, it will ruin whatever kind of preservation they did to it, so I have to keep it in there and can't look at it :(

  • Mine is still hanging in my brother's old closet at my parent's house. It hasn't been cleaned yet, so I'm thinking about wearing it for Halloween to pass out candy. Why not wear it again?
  • I am SO glad to hear I'm not the only one who hasn't cleaned yet. haha

I also saw that picture on pinterest, it looked like a really awesome idea. We don't have a house yet so I'm hoping it's still possible!

How fun! It's fun to think of a reason to wear it again haha

I really like the idea of getting it framed even if it's just to hang the frame in my basement. It's cooler than storing it in a closet forever.

  • I am taking my dress to get cleaned & preserved in a couple weeks. I just haven't had the $$ to do it.

  • I just found this http://www.heirloomshadowboxco.com/ on Pinterest and it looks like it would be smaller than some of the other framed dresses that are on there...and there is an option where it is a mirror until you turn the lights in the box on and then the dress is displayed (makes me want to do this even more!!!).

  • Such cute ideas. I can't wait till one of us actually does it. :)

I agree! I'd love to actually see it...not just on the website that does it for you.

  • I used bridalkare.com and am really happy with what I got.  I paid around $80 plus shipping, which was great compared to the $150 my salon wanted to charge.  My dress looks lovely, and they put my veil and clutch in the box too.  Right now the box is in our office, and I open the lid to peek inside about once a week haha.
  • It is really expensive to get your dress professionally cleaned!  I haven't done mine yet, but I need to because I'm going to donate my dress to Brides Across America.

  • I'm having a hard time justifying getting mine professionally done, since I only paid $99 for my dress and it costs more to clean it than it actually cost. Might try cleaning it at home at some point, though it is lace so I'm a bit worried.

Is this different than what ash did? Can you open your box or does it have preservatives on it that makes air ruin it?

  • Sorry, I work late on Thursdays.  Here's some pictures:

Please ignore the box that my box is sitting on lol.  I don't dare open the plastic up, I think that would ruin the "preservation" :(  They mailed me a shipping label, then I put my dress in an old Crate&Barrel box and dropped it off at Staples.  Only took about 2 (?) weeks for them to ship the dress back to me!

  • So is the dress packed in there? I'm really hoping I can get mine preserved and able to display it in it's true length.

Me too! I think if I had it boxed like that I would want it so you could see the whole dress. It turned out really pretty tho.

  • I bought a Groupon for a $99 wedding dress cleaning, but haven't dropped it off yet. I don't want to get my dress preserved. My mom puts her wedding dress on a for little while every year on her anniversary, and I'd like to do the same!

That's so fun! I wanna wear my dress every year! I bet it keeps your weight on target to where you were when you got married if you try on your dress every year, too.

  • It's unfortunately sealed in the box, exactly as you see it.  I really wish I could take it out, but then is have to pay $80 to have it resealed.  I'm sure I'll break it open some day though!
