  • This is a recipe that I got from my Mom.  We are it growing up and I now fix it for my husband.  It is super easy because you don't have to cook the spaghetti before, it cooks in the oven!  I hope you enjoy!

    Baked Spaghetti

    1lb of hamburger

    1 small onion, chopped

    15 oz can of tomato sauce

    water

    2 tsp chili powder

    1-2 tsp garlic powder

    1 tsp dried parsley flakes (or Italian seasoning, or both)

    1-2 bay leaves

    Salt to taste

    ? to ? of a box of spaghetti

    2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

    /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;}

    Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

    Brown the hamburger and chopped onion together in a dutch oven (what you would boil spaghetti in).  Once the hamburger is done, drain off the fat and return it to the same pan.  Increase the heat to med-high and add the tomato sauce.  Fill the tomato sauce can all the way up with water and add it to the hamburger.  Add all of the spices/dried herbs and bay leaves to the sauce.  Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

    Take some spaghetti and break it in half.  Layer the bottom of a 9x9 inch pan with the broken spaghetti. Add a couple of ladles full of sauce onto the spaghetti.  Repeat these steps until you have run out of sauce.  It is important to make sure that you aren?t using too much spaghetti in each layer.  If you do, then it will not cook all the way through before the liquid is used up.  You should be able to see the liquid standing in the bottom of the pan.  Top with the cheese and then cover with aluminum foil. Bake for 45 minutes with the foil on.  After 45 minutes remove the foil and bake an additional 5-10 minutes to brown the cheese on top.

    Once you remove it from the oven, let sit for 5 minutes before cutting and eating.  Enjoy!
