How is everyone this morning? Looks like RI got off "easy" comparitively speaking.
I'm hearing lots of bad news about the NJ and NYC area, though... hope you're ok, Michele!
Re: Post Sandy Check-In
We made out really well. DH has today off (and had yesterday off). DS's daycare closed yesterday at noon but re-opens at 8 this morning. I am back at work - I took half a day vacation yesterday so I was home before the worst of the storm, but it was technically business as usual. I can't wait for the day that I work for an employer who cares at least a little for its employees as people, and not just as money makers.
No major damage. Lots of small tree branches are down and half of a lilac bush cracked at some point last night, but we were largely spared. Only a brief power interruption at dinnertime last night.
We lost power a little after midnight last night. DS woke up once during the night, freaking out that he couldn't see anything. A little snuggles time in the rocking chair, and he was good for the remainder of the night. The kids woke up at 8am, and the power followed suit. All in all, less than 8 hours without power. No noticeable damage, but I'll do a walk-about later and see for sure.
Hope everyone else is OK, that power is restored, and damage is minimal.
Thanks for the update! Glad to hear they are all ok, despite the power outage. Fingers crossed that they get it back sooner.
hello ladies! glad to see youa re ok.
We are good too. I came back to work around 11 today to get everything up and running. DH had his classes at CCRI cancelled so he is home snuggling w the dog and I amr eally jealous!
It seems like it is business as usual here too. I nearly fell over when my boss told me to work from home yesterday. She is (stuck) in london so my theory is she is only seeing "the worst" on TV and thought it was worse than it was here.
We only had the lights flicker for a few minutes and that was about it.
A huge tree is down in the parking lot at work and thats about it.
Back to the usual. I can't get over the footage from the NYC subway stations with the water pouring in. I know my friends there have been without power since about 9 am yesterday. It is just insane.
I was sad to see that yet again ,the Coast Guard house in narragansett is destroyed
We go there for every special occasion including my college graduation, grad school graduation and our rehearsal dinner!
no major issues here just lost power from 5:15pm Monday until 5:30pm Wednesday.
Helllooooooooooooooo!
Well, we're up at my mom's in RI for now. Power still out at home (going on 48 hour mark, lost it at 6:04pm Monday night). DH uses a CPAP machine to sleep so no power isn't an option for us - he made it through one night but didn't really sleep so we headed up here yesterday. Power return estimate is still 7-10 days.... not even a specific time yet on our account!!!
Our neighborhood was hit badly by wind. 3 doors down a neighbor had a tree crush his entire deck, piece through the room through his living room and down through the floor to the 1st floor (raised ranches are the general set up on my street). Massive downed trees and lines everywhere, only one of the 3 exits from our area was clear! Nothing compared to the NJ shore though, or manhattan, or Jersey city/hoboken. insanity. My heart aches, I can't even see the pics I just start crying. Both of my old neighborhoods in Manhattan and Jersey city were under water. J has no idea when he'll be able to return to his office - it's without power right now anyway, but even once restored, no trains into the city for him for a while. Daycare got theirs back today and is on limited hours tomorrow and Friday, so hopefully power is back up by the weekend and we can head home and kids can go back to daycare. I have trial deadlines and working from a kitchen table with 2 kids running around is NOT productive. But my parents are working and they are skittish going w/ people they don't know well.... so. oh well.
So all in all we're fine, thankfully. Just happened when I have trial deadlines and a lot of work to do, but we'll figure that out too. Glad to hear everyone is safe. And while I love RI, I am just not needing to be here right now. *sigh*

So glad you are safe, even with the challenges of being away from home. Scary about your neighbor's house! Glad he was safe despite the tree in his house. Fingers crossed you get power back sooner than the estimates!
