San Juan PR - accomodations

We have rented a charter sailboat to see the BVI for 6 nights. Before the trip we plan to spend 2 nights in San Juan. What recommendations do you have on places to stay and things to do. Don't need to do the beach or snorkeling as we will do that on the sailboat charter. We need something in a good location for touring. Nothing too fancy as we will not spend much time at the hotel.

TIA

Re: San Juan PR - accomodations

  • sounds like a great trip.  If you aren't picky about beachfront, etc, I would just price line a hotel in Old San Juan.

We've been to PR numerous times and have won really nice properties (Condado Beach Marriott, etc) for $100/night.

  • I stayed at the Marriot and Stellarius Casino when I was there in May. It was a nice and had a great pool and beach access. Since you'll be on the charter, I would stay in Old San Juan or quick walking distance to it. The Caribe Hilton looked pretty amazing when I ran into escape a quick rain shower.

As for sites. My husband and I rented a jeep, ripped the top off and drove through the el Yunque rainforest. It was a ton of fun and made us think of Jurassic Park. We toured the fort and walked around Old San Juan. We were there for a long weekend and had a good time.

  • We used priceline and wound up at the Caribe Hilton for a little over $100/night.  We loved it.
  • ive stayed att he water club and the caribe hilton. both were nice. water club is a beautiful boutique place, rooftop lounge and pool/ hilton was a large place but still nice. had a nice pool area. not such a great beach though.

    i preferred water club.

Friday, December 28 2012. The day I had emergency appendix surgery in Mexico and quit smoking. Proof that everything has a good side!! DH and I are happily child-free!! No due date or toddler tickers here!! my read shelf:

  • we stayed at the waldorf astoria resort for $94/night, it was the government rate.

there is an embassy suites in a good location too.  It's not that far to walk to old san juan from condado, there is a bus that runs up and down that you can take too.

  • The Intercontinental was nice. It is on the beach close to the airport.

  • We've stayed at the Caribe Hilton twice now and enjoyed it each time. The resort has everything you need...you really don't need to even leave the property if you don't want to! I particularly enjoy their private beach. It's small but nice. They also have a Morton's onsite which is of course delicious! There rates are usually good, but if you can snag it up on Priceline for even cheaper it's a definitely win-win!
